Do You Mountain Bike?

Looks like dry weather all week!:ride

I'll be at JMP today doing a couple of Cinderella loops.

Let us know how the trails are :)

Just wondering - have you considered swapping your frame out for a Rush frame? As much as I love the Jekyll, it's never going to climb like an XC trail bike. The Rush seems much more well rounded, and I've heard nothing but good things about it.

This might go for a good price on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=190195107665

JMP trail conditions (from MTBR)

From http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=379871

A few of us were out at JMP today and there were several singletrack trails that someone had placed large tree limbs and/or rocks across the trails to create blocks. Cinderella had the most obstacles but other trails did as well. We rode a significant amount of the singletrack there today and cleared the naturally and 'unnaturally' caused blocks. You may want to ride a bit more conservatively until all these are cleared.

There was a lot of debris from the last storm and we cleared some bad sections of that. Park Service removed the downed tree on the trail to Two Dollar Hill but there are still a few more trees down. Be safe!

"Unnaturally" caused blocks? Gotta love the East Bay.

Damn, good thing I'm slow. So who wants to ride this Saturday? :teeth

Mike, check the multisport thread for workouts. I want to swim and run.

I haven't thought about swapping out with a Rush...Hmmmmmm.....Are you thinking about it?

I did the West Ridge/JMP loop today. There were a couple of downed trees on West Ridge -- I even had to squeeze my way through some of the branches.

A few muddy spots and puddles here and there, but the trail was decent and ~60% dry.

I didn't get a chance to take Cindy as I had a few mechanicals and had to cut my ride short.

Not the Jekyll, but I'd consider replacing the Stumpjumper with a Rush someday for Xterra and XC races. As much as I like my Jekyll, I don't know that any number of mods will make it climb and pedal like an XC Trail bike.

The Push'ed rear shock gives it some pedaling efficiency, but with the geometry and ergonomics as they are, that front end is still going to wander on steeper, more technical climbs - even with the most aggressive XC setting.

If I ever let the Jekyll go, I'd probably replace it with a Prophet. I have this vision of building the ultimate Lefty-equipped Downieville machine - if the Jekyll isn't it, it works pretty darned well for the time being :)

Pete just picked up a Prophet :thumbup

No kidding - does it have a lefty? I thought he was an XC kinda guy - I wouldn't have expected him to pick up something like that.

No its not a lefty. Yeah I guess he just wanted something that would work all around, its 140MM travel. He didn't get the Prophet 1 though, thats like $4K

The Jekyll isn't really considered an XC bike, more like all-mountain...so, I figured the Jekyll would be the FUN bike:)

I've also been toying around with the idea of getting a hardtail for my XC race bike. We'll see what happens..

Are you talking about the Vanilla R coil?:confused

I wanna do Downieville this year.

Hey I know someone who has a medium Bullit that will likely be for sale soon. He says it climbs well for a 7" bike. Then again, he's kind of a monster fitness dude. He's getting a freaking Titus Motolite Ti as his all arounder :mad :jealous

If it's your fun bike, I think you're in good shape. It's the reason I still have mine.

Despite the advances in technology, hardtails seem to be the weapons of choice for many XC racers. I'd probably go with a lightweight XC Race bike like a Scalpel or an Epic if I showed any kind of competitive promise in XC races or Xterra - but that's a huuuuuge "if" :)

Any front end, really. The ergos of the bike just don't put much weight on the front end, even in the most aggressive XC setting.

I wanna do Downieville this year.

With all the new MTB recruits, I'm sure there will be quite the group when the trails open :)

I'm up for a ride:teeth.....anytime after 1pm during the week works;)

Yody, where were you thinking of riding?

John, I can do Saturday.
