Do You Mountain Bike?

Ryan, you're welcome to take my 6" bike if you want. You can come get it this week to try it out if you'd like. Climbs like a chubby goat too :)

I thought Ryan still had Ducky's Endu...

nevermind

:)

BTW, am I the only one planning on going to JMP Saturday morning to help with trail work?

He's welcome to use it for the CCCX race, but I don't think that would be very smart. He's so comfortable on his Epic, he should use it.

What day are the races? I might go just to check it out and help out whoever is riding. I don't know if I'm even in shape to do the beginner part. But I would like to ride before the race during practice probably.

Supposed the course is smooth enough to where he shouldn't need the extra travel.

It's a downhill race with some pedaling - conditioning shouldn't be too much of an issue. Do some practice runs with us that morning, then sign up if you feel comfortable :)

I'm trying to talk the Super Jew into going too. If I go, I'll just do Sunday practice.

Playing it by ear. If it's gonna be wet (rain) I'm definitely not in. Other than that I'm a maybe, leaning towards a probably not but might be swayed.
What time is everyone leaving? How long does it take to get to Salinas?

Mutano Raptor 2.4's on sale at Performance right now for 19.99 ea.
What is the Mikey opinion on the 2.4's :wtf

Race is at Toro Park in Salinas this Sunday, March 9th.

Sign up takes place on day of race only.

The course is open for practice the day before (noon-?) and the day of the race (8-1145am). The timed runs start at noon.

I went to the website but didn't see anything about the course, length, conditions, terrain ? ?

Anyone have a clue?

From the rideSFO forum:

And pretty fun, fast courses. Be prepared for a long hike up, no shuttles, and getting only about two practice runs in before your race if you're a glutton for punishment and want to do a 30-45 minute hike 3 times. (If you only go on race day Sunday)

I've never gone and practiced Saturday, so that will help. You could get two to three good runs in, or one run and session sections of the course on Saturday. Then get a practice run in on Sunday morning and then your race run.

Also, an all-mountain rig is better than the big DH rig. Some of the courses could be considered half XC. Check out the site a few days before the race for a few details on what the course will be like. They change them up slightly each time.

From the organizer:

race courses do change from race to race, and i try and use different courses, but am forced to use certain area's of the park, so i try and change it up as much as possible

there is usually a pedaling section mixed in some where , but most of the stuff is fast single track and fire roads that is really fun to get out and shred on!

we have practice the day before the race starting at noon and then practice the day of from 8 until 12 noon when we start the timed runs

day of reg

It takes about an hour to get to Salinas from my house (basically where we met). I went there today.

Mikey, mutano's!? I think I'll go get some.

heads up on the mutanos. depending on what your using them for, the 2.4's have a pretty thin sidewall for hardcore AM riding, esp if you ride anything in the rocks. another tid bit about the 2.4 is that the shoulder knobs are a bit smaller than those of the 2.24's, which have a thick ass sidewall and tall shoulder knobs. 2.24 mutanos are the best all around tire ever made for the bay area. front and rear FTW

these 2.4's will be going on my xc rig, anyone know where to get good deals on 2.24's?

That's what I thought. Mikey definitely told me that before as well but I just couldn't remember what tire he said it about. :wtf Now I remember. Thanx Guys!!
And,... I agree. I run the 2.24 Mutano's on the rear of all bikes, with the exception of the dh rig. They are awesome tires.

Yea, my garage. But you can't have any. :twofinger :laughing :laughing

Sorry John, just couldn't pass that up.
Seriously, I have some if you need them immediately but they are not for sale. If you take them, you need to replace them. :thumbup

Scott hit it on the nose regarding the weight and tread of the two different sizes of Mutanos. I run the 2.4s on my XC bike and the 2.24s on my AM bike.

I found one set on eBay, and Price Point has them for $30. If you can find them at Performance, they'll price match stores that have a sales floor.

pricepoint has them for 30 a piece, or if you buy 2, its like $49 or something. Mine were bald so i just ordered a new set

Thanks dude,

But like someone else said, I'm pretty comfy on the epic so i'll probably ride that. Plus, there is the added bonus of winning a DH race (heck yes i did just go there) on a 4" XC dork bike.

I'll probably be doing shuttles on psyde-ohhh as a warm up/practice session Saturday morning if anyone wants to join. Or, if anyone is going down to Salinas for Sat practice, I might be up for that too.

sweet. I'm gonna try to snag the ones on ebay but if I don't get 'em, I'll be ordering from pricepoint :thumbup

Go get 'em Ryan. I'm gonna try to make it down there after class on Sunday to watch you school the downhillers on a xc rig :laughing

Oh, and have I mentioned that I want this?

Organizer said there was no shuttling....not sure if that was the rule or people just didn't do it. I think we should do it:laughing

I'll be riding Chappy and Cindy over and over in the next few days for practice.

Still undecided about Saturday practice....It wouldn't be an issue if it was closer.

I'm talking about shuttling edit: ***I don't know nothin about nothin*** . I'm guessing the cccx course is going to be laid out such that it won't be feasible to shuttle. :confused
