Do You Mountain Bike?

large is my goal now. 410mm thompson and a 60 mil stem and the bike should rip

One thing that might make the geometry feel a little bit more comfy and get your weight a little bit further back for the rippin' dh would be the Thompson Set-Back seat post. That's what I have. Pain in the ass to set up but once you've got her dialed it's a really sweet item.

I'm down for rides all over The Bay.

I usually ride my mountain bike or my motorcycle every weekend. Today we rode Tamarancho. It was very nice! I think next weekend we might be riding China Camp. I'll start posting my rides here. Great thread! :thumbup

We got there about 12:00. I worked until 6 am this morning. I had to sneak in some zzzzz's before the ride. I really like Tamarancho. The varity is perfect.

I must have ridden right past you. I got back down to my car around 1PM.

Here's a pic I took of the rest of the group. And here is Harpo profiling. :laughing

Tamarancho is a great place to ride. I look forward to going back. :thumbup

And it was great meeting Sonny and Roxy and putting a face to a username. Hope to do it again soon. :cool

From what I've heard, that small difference in travel amounts to a big difference in overall feel.

OK guys and girls, what do you think about this for an xc machine

Are you really bent on getting an XC Race bike? I kinda like the idea of an XC Trail bike with a nice set of wheels. You can probably set up an XC Trail bike so the weight and pedalling efficiency are close to an XC Race bike, and the ride will probably be a lot smoother.

XC Race: Specialized Epic / Giant Anthem / Cannondale Scalpel / Trek Top Fuel / Santa Cruz Blur XC

XC Trail: Specialized Stumpjumper FSR / Giant Trance / Cannondale Rush / Trek Fuel EX / Santa Cruz Blur LT

Huge Bike Swap TODAY!! Cupertino Bike Shop

In case you didn't know and will be in the south peninsula today, there's a huge bike swap meet today at Cupertino Bike Shop on DeAnza Blvd. I'll be there selling, along with 60+ other sellers. Stop by and say "Hi" if you're there. I'll be wearing a RideSFO shirt. L8r. :cool

1. Tamarancho Rocks. 3rd year I've had a pass there and ever time I go I'm glad I did. :thumbup

2. Not really hell bent on any xc bike. Just looking for opinions. That and I'm pretty broke and it seems that you can get a used Epic for a decent price. If I'm even thinking slightly about doing an xc race I'm really going to need a light, efficient bike to somewhat make up for my lack of cardio these days.
Just thinking out loud. Probably wont end up with anything anyway.

SOOOOO, ive been playing with seat height numbers and things, after riding an XL nomad, which absolutely sucked. to much like the enduro, long, stretched out...etc.

So i crunched a few numbers:

large nomad has an 18.5 inch seat tube. with 175mm cranks, and a 410mm thompson, would i be able to get proper leg extension, with me having a 35.5-36 inch inseam. and if so, will the post be maxed? etc

answer...i think. someone wanna go over it for me?

post height = .833x inseam

for me, that would be 29.57 or 29.98 depending on which inaccurate self measured inseam i use.

trying to visualize, 18.5 seat tube and a 410mm thompson (16.1 inches or so), combined gives about a 34.6 inches, subtract 4 for min insertion, and your around 30.6 or so, and throw on the 6.8 from the 175mm cranks, and we come out around 37.5. which would give me an inch and a half, or more depending on the more accurate inseam.

this all make sense? i think its right...maybe someone can confirm.

Blah Blah Blah , . . . Just go test ride a large Nomad somewhere !
1) Dude, you're not obligated to buy it if you test ride it :wtf
2) As much $mula$ as a new bike can be, you ought to know for sure that it will at least fit you :teeth

JM2C (just my 2 cents)
