Flat Track Racing Mega Thread - INCLUDES SPOILERS!

wow !!

[a] - Briar's lap 7 outside pass to re-take [& keep?] the lead
- both Bauman's & Mees' factory bikes break [BB's twice!]
[c] - JD's Yamaha in 8th ahead of 2 factory H-Ds

Wow, that was a finish I did not expect. Kenny Tolbert bikes do not break very often.

Some great racing in the heats and drama-filled mains. Shayna's heat win was really fun to watch.

Bromley tried everything to get by Carlile but kept his head and came home to clean 2nd in the Main.

Incredibly bummed for Briar Bauman and the Zanotti Team. Good news is that they have a package that can beat Mees on different types of tracks. Good sign for next year. Wiles captures 2nd place in the championship. Glad the the track offered different lines. Nothing like twins on a cushion Mile.

Saturday is the last AFT race of the season is another first time venue and another big market for AFT to reach; the Meadowlands Mile just outside New York City. This is also Kenny Coolbeth's final race before he retires and concentrates on his boxing career.

All times Pacific:

12:30pm Practice/Qualifying

3:30pm Singles Heats
4:10pm Twins Heats

No Semis this round - Heat results transfer directly to the Main

5:50pm AFT Singles Main
6:30pm AFT Twins Main

Bikes on track in about 30 minutes. On Scottie's Facebook pit walk most racers said the track will stay a cushion. Haven't seen a pea gravel cushion mile since the MegaMile in Virginia. Gonna be spectacular with all the different lines for the Twins. Also going to hurt.

American Flat Track racing mounts a comeback

".....Lock.....is reaping the rewards of the advice he took from mixed martial arts organization UFC.....turned the fringe sport of MMA into a global moneymaker. Lock says he invited [UFC prexy] White to a flat track race a couple of years ago.

He [White] said.....this is all very familiar.....What you've got here is raw, it's real, it's unpolished. And in a world of over-produced sporting action, you've got an edge here..... but don't make a mistake.....introduce your sport to America through its athletes. Not through the format, not through how many ccs the engine's got or who won the championship in 1921. He said introduce it through the eyes of your athletes
....."

===============================

how cool that @ 2nitez AFT finale,
so many local heroes Qd for the Main

GO all you Bay Areans/Central Valleyites !!

Best race of the year for the singles. Now I have to leave for a dinner at 6:30 :mad :mad :mad Will try to watch on the phone if I can.

When will NBCSN have the race on so I can watch the main event? :(

Don't know when the NBCSN broadcast is but probably a few weeks.

Truly fantastic Singles Main. Twins main was fantastic as well.

Awesome show this year. Stoked AFT is doing well.
BadassesOne and all. Kudos to the players on the track. :thumbup

I'm still buzzed about the races last night. Really good stuff. That Singles Main will be remembered for a long time.

Interesting news already circulating for 2019. Bryan Smith and Ricky Howerton are done with Indian and will be back racing their dominant Kawasakis next season. More brand battles will be great for the series. So much speculation about Briar Bauman, its good to see him as the hot property. He's just beginning to show how good he is. No word on who will run the Indian factory effort with Howerton gone. Zanotti maybe?

KTM is definitely going to have a factory effort in the Singles class for 2019 and who know how many riders will switch to orange after seeing how well Bromley and Texter did on the KTM/Husky platform in '18. KTM is developing their Twins package and may even race it before the end of 2019. We all know KTM really commits to winning when they get serious about a particular series so this is all good news.

American Flat Track released their Provisional 2018 Schedule today.

Four TTs for the Twins. Five for the Singles. The spectacular Meadowlands Mile will return as will the Minnesota Mile. Two cushion Miles to end the season was fantastic this year.

With Briar Bauman coming on strong late in the '18 season and Smith going back to the Howerton Kawasaki, we definitely won't see Mees dominance next season. Going to be a fantastic year. Is it March yet?

I don't see Calistoga. :cry

Yeah, they had to choose a 2nd NorCal event
or a SoCal market site, so previously successful
Perris won out

While ‘stogie is my very fave FT experience
(too-cute town. mud baths, hot spring pools,
plus a shaded, short walk to awesome venue)
getting a room in town is quite pricey

there’ve been mebbe 4 Nationals held there
since its 2010 resurrection, which is pretty good
when compared to the dozens of tracks
that’ve hosted 1 or 2 contests & then disappear....
