How many riders switched to LED headlights from halogen?

Less heat has been my experience with the LED replacements I've put in turn signal, running, and brake light housings, but every LED that I've purchased for head, driving, and fog lights has been significantly hotter. These types of bulbs either have huge heatsinks, or fans to cool them.
 
It's not the LED that gets hot, it's the power supply. There are various ways to remediate the heat issue. Large sinks or fans are a couple of ways. The heat sinks can be one of various configurations. None of the heat sinks or fans that I have seen are contained within the headlight housing which results in less heat within the housing.

A filament in a halogen bulb emits light in a 360 degree pattern around an axis concentric with the coil of the filament. And the reflector is designed for this specific shape.

LED’s emit light from a flat panel and only put out light from that flat plane. They do not emit light in a 360 degree pattern and they are highly directional. This requires a much different reflector design.

That is physically impossible due to the difference in how the light is produced. You cannot alter physics.
