Are you serious? Have you even looked into this beyond this thread? Was the information provided here not enough for you to do a google search to find out the answer to your question?

I don't know man, if I were caught being totally ignorant in a subject where one can get instantaneous results on this exact topic via an internet search, I would simply crawl under a rock and not utter a word for the next decade, not criticize the person passing on accurate information.

Other people may think that abysmal ignorance is the hallmark of accomplished motorcyclists.

For my 2016, I extended the factory wiring harness on both sides in order to avoid future failure (the connection point on the lenses is different from stock). The halos improve daytime visibility and the beam light output is substantially greater as well. The low beam is wide and rectangular in throw. The high beam throw is closer to a square pattern. If you adjust the beams, it is possible to aim the high and low beams to provide a consistent pattern that is much better than could have been achieved with swapped led bulbs. I have also supplemented with cheap fork mounted led yellow low beam, white high beam lights for added daytime visibility and more night time light.

I never would have done the swap for aesthetics as I have come to terms with knowledge that my bike has a face only a mother could love. But, that is only one owner's view of this bike.

They canceled the order because: shipping and billing addy were different, expedited shipping, and the total money value.

Said I need to upload an id with the billing addy. Said fuck you and placed a new order to ship to my house but it's irritating as fuck to say the total was a red flag DON'T MAKE YOUR FUCKING HEADLIGHTS SO DAMN EXPENSIVE IF THAT'S AN ISSUE :laughing

I'll be salty if my bank vetoes the transaction because of the charge+cancellation+charge. :rofl

Have I looked at this beyond this thread? Only to the extent that I was teaching the subject to college undergraduates.

It's clear that neither you nor tzrider have any expertise on the subject and, more crucially, have no scientific training. Yet you believe that reading AI garbage on the internet makes you an omniscient internet warrior, able to adjudicate matters in fields that you not only never studied, but had never had any interest in.

Then please take the time to regale us on how you're going to solve the problem that every current LED manufacturer has been unable to do for the last decade plus. I wonder why the sales teams all say the same thing. I suppose they should just call you.

I'll take your opinion that I'm ignorant on the topic, since I don't have formal education in LED headlights. I'm still struggling to understand how you have the solution that no one else has been able to solve.

I do have personal experience buying and tossing out LED replacements for at lease 15 different vehicles.

When it comes to arrogance, I've got a long way to go to rise to your level.

A bulb has a filament suspended between two contacts and it produces light in all directions.

But an led is....I don't know exactly what. It's a "diode", whatever the fuck that is. 🤷. But I think the pattern of the light it emits is different from the filament bulb's light, so a headlight housing/reflector design intended for filament bulbs wouldn't be ideal when using an led.

I don't know exactly how, but it seems like it could be different. 🤔

"Cutoff" is a term I've learned with commercial lighting upgrades we've done. "Splash" is another, but that's been used in the context of a conventional fixture; halogen/ sodium fixtures. "High cutoff" has always been referenced WRT LED's over conventional fixtures. This is almost always discussed as a selling point for higher quality LED's (that they have a tighter cutoff). I don't know if higher quality Halogen/ sodium bulbs (w/ fixture) were sold the same way, but I suspect they were. "Splash" being a good and bad thing, depending on needs.

It wouldn't be ideal, but you can make the LED beam pattern virtually indistinguishable from that of the bulb.
 
Wow, I never expected this thread to get so lively, but there is certainly a lot of input.

As to the pattern, I know that almost all of the LED 'bulbs' that I've seen have 2 diodes in it, each on opposite sides of a small board.

I'm guessing that it's imitation of a halogen bulb comes down to whether the light emitted is mostly linear to both sides or whether the diode produces mostly equal light across half the sphere that it occupies. The latter seems like it would result in light coverage that is only split along the plane of the board while the former would create light coverage that is less filling than the halogen and would give less consistent coverage either vertically or horizontally.
 
Obviously the engineering teams at Hella, Sylvania, and Osram, are missing something. They need to read this thread for additional enlightenment.
