I went down last night on Redwood rd

It is very very very very unlikely that you were going so fast your bike could not have physically made the turn. I have seen people overcome the physical capabilities of their motorcycle but most of them get paid to ride.

I was once given very sound advice, "If you think you are in a turn too fast, just flick the bitch in there, you'll probably make it." Please try it once your bike is fixed. WARNING: This advice was directed at sportbike riders, may not work with cruisers or other low-clearance bikes.

This is very sound advice: the bike CAN MAKE THE TURN. The "panic reflex" in a turn is turn harder: Many (perhaps most) solo-motorcycle crashes in turns were under conditions and speed where the motorcycle is capable of making the turn, but the rider panicked and did something wrong (went wide, front brake) rather than just tighten the line, hold the throttle, and pray.

weaver I totally agree man. Im not gonna sit here and say "a deer ran out" or "i hit a rock". bottom line is, i didnt hold my line.

Couple more years and crashing in that corner is going to be like jumping into a ball pit of motorcycles plastics.

Heal UP !

Planegray, does this mean were "scared of commitment"? :rofl

I can only speak for myself, and the answer is; yes

(but knowing it's half the battle, right ? )

I have to follow up with a specialist but at first glance I fractured at least one metacarpal (pinky finger) and possibly my ring finger as well.

Wont be giving the barf greeting :)twofinger) anytime soon but well see what the doc says this week.

Sorry if this question has already been answered (too much in a hurry to read all the posts now) But...is the pinky finger linked to the ring finger on your gloves...Or is the pinky out there on it's own?

(course not knowing the injury, if that would of mattered).

sorry to hear about your get off, glad u r mostly doing well

gotta get yerselfz some leather pants yo! good pants w/ good knee pads and you woulda mostly walked away from that one. those pics are friggin OUCH !

hope to see you out there ASAP !

Careful with those military doctors. They had my blood type as B+ for the 9 years I was in only to get out and donate blood and find out it is actually B-.

Thank god I never needed blood while in the military.

Heal up man!

Here is a video from a crash on Redwood (not me), same place:

In the Redwood photo thread there was a series of pics where a scooter went down and the rider was taken out by fire and ambulance.

That's a pretty wide open road...gotta work hard to crash there it would seem.

Another vidi showing the stupidity of a group ride where spaces between riders are minimal and riders try to maintain the minimal gap so as not to lose cred with their fellow riders. :rolleyes

Best piece of advice I ever got from the ex-boyfriend who got me back into riding... right before my first track day (with a whole month of riding the vintage Gixxer 1100 under my belt): "The bike WILL corner better than you. If you go hot in a corner, don't panic- look through the corner, and push that bike over and go!".
I actually ended up having to follow that advice... went too hot into a corner, knew I couldn't make it... and figured I didn't have anything to lose by pushing the bike over and trying. Looked well through the corner, and pushed hard on the inside bar. RAILED through that corner with my heart beating outside my chest... and made it.
It's sound advice... it will be many years before my abilities surpass the bike's... I always try to keep that in the back of my mind.

You sound like the last guy I was dating. :x :p :love

Connie, that post made me laugh because I could see me doing the same thing.

I know accident was my fault, not the bikes. The bike HAD way more capabilities than I have experience (or balls). Im sorry my bike had to pay for my mistake, but at least I took something away from this right?

That being said, not sure if I want to spend the money on fixing and replacing parts (probably at least $3000 at first glance) or just find a cheap 996 or SV and part this out. Anyone know of either of those bikes around? Obviously Im not in a hurry since the Doctor told me I need surgery to fix my hand and I gotta save up a bit first (so I can get gear too)

And, dont worry TRICARE is sending me to a civilian specialist.

GAJ,

Redwood is actually a pretty poor choice of roads for fast riding. The pavement is far from smooth, which compromises traction and robs confidence, and it's not a particularly well marked or predictable road. Bicyclists, cars stopped in the middle of the lane around blind corners, and the occasional spot of gravel don't help.

Crashes up there don't surprise me. The fact that people try to ride Redwood at a Spirited pace does.
