lane sharing mirror bumping

Just playing devil's advocate here. An admitted novice rider tapped a mirror, and the impact wasn't enough to send him out of control: I'm going to guess there was no damage to the other vehicle.

I can't imagine a moto mirror hitting a car mirror can do much damage. it's pretty safe to assume they aren't going to need to total out the car for something as minor as that, so your comparing it to a felony hit and run is pretty ridiculous

Promise you that a fixed mirror on a car will have scratched paint, if not a crack. His mirror could fold in and leave him able to ride.

If you mess up the paint on my mirror it is going to be at least $100, and if you crack it it will be much, much more. Why should I have to pay?????

Looks like I hit more than a mirror - I hit a nerve. For the record, the driver gave me a blank stare. I don't think that either of us knew what to do. Tapping a mirror was not covered in the DPS booklet or in my MSF course. In the moment I didn't know what to do. I made a mistake. So I brought my problem to a forum of folks who have a hell of a lot more riding experience than I do. I appreciate the advice that I got (thanks Scout for your charitable reply).

White Roadster - please see Scout's reply for an example of how to give advice without being a douche. :twofinger

I did something stupid yesterday. I was splitting lanes at a stoplight in San Francisco while the cars were stopped. I misjudged and clipped the mirror of the car on my right with my right mirror. :wtf I looked back and made a vague "I'm sorry" gesture to the driver and kept on going. I felt like a jerk, but there was no damage done to either vehicle. So my question is: what do you do when you clip a mirror? :dunno
you did the right thing man,:thumbup

It might not do *much* damage, but if it does *any* damage, it sucks for the driver. As motorcyclists, we don't have the right to make contact with other vehicles just because we're in a hurry. I think drivers have a right to expect us to be as responsible as we all want them to be.

To the OP, as I said, I think you've got the point.

because neither would happen. bike mirrors fold up upon impact, so I doubt there was any damage at all. but you go ahead and freak out about something as minor as this. obviously the person whose mirror was clipped didn't

if you hit one car out of the million you split by, i give em the finger cuz theyre holding hands with the driver next to them. give me some room. i still split if traffics goin 75mph

Oh it would happen, because I have fixed mirrors and Black paint. So yes the best I could hope for is a scratch. :rolleyes

exactly. you do need to chill dude, he didn't run over a baby's head for chrissake

No he ran into a car and rode away without saying anything. I hope she got his license and dings his ass for hit and run.

Yay! We shall one day see your name in another barf thread with roses.

I thinking everyone -white roadster, had good advice. Though after this thread if I saw WR in his car and accidentally clipped his mirror, I'd back up and finish the job with my carbon fiber knuckles b4 taking off.

ive done that once before. its whatever. jsut try ur best not to..
