lane sharing mirror bumping

I've never clipped a mirror in 27 years. I have had to wiggle the bike as I rolled by to tuck a mirror under, though... :) But not that often.

Yep. :thumbup

If you don't think you have enough room, then you shouldn't make the pass.

I didn't call anyone names, now did I? :thumbup

To your defense, no you didn't and others here did call you the douche bag which is where I got it. However....

You just did a hit and run!!! HOW DO YOU KNOW you didn't do damage to THEIR vehicle??? I hope they got you plate number, and the cops are on the way to your door!! You need off the street.

That's what got everyone started in on you and you could have said it more like.

That's a hit and run and is a felony no matter what way you look at it. If they had gotten your plate number you could end up being arrested and lose your moto over it. Next time, make sure you stop!

For the record, as a hit and run victim (totaled my car) I get just as pissy about it. But also... a mirror tap is far from hitting some guy in the ass at 80+ mph (I was doing 70 and they were doing well over 80 had I not been in a heavy car it could have been MUCH worse). A mirror tap is nothing compared to the back end being caved in. There are plenty of mirrors out there that don't have paint on them at all that are just hardened black plastic.

Anyway, I'm just sayin'. :teeth

If buy the Mona Lisa and strap it to my bumper, are you responsible for that?

What's deluxe becomes debris. If you are not okay with that, perhaps you should transport your car on a trailer.

Yeah, I saw the Mona Lisa on Ebay last week, no reserve either.

But seriously, if I am on the Bay Bridge in rush hour traffic and I do a little tick ( not a whack, mind you) of someone's 1989 Hyundai Excel mirror, I may not stop.
However if I have clearly whacked the crap out of someone's late model car, and it is safe to pull over without getting killed doing it, I will.

I do not condone any hit and run but if someone touches my car while parking , I figure that's why I bought a 12 year old car with actual bumpers instead of a mutherfugging-bitch-ass, ( no offense to anyone) bichon freezer white mercedes benz. (You know those stupid little cars, not even a real benz!)

If I were that worried about my precious car, I would take the bus to work, and leave the car inside the garage where it would be safe from riders, bugs, and sand on the highway!

So it's all a matter of degree, whether the contact constitutes a hit or a touch, or even if it's safe to pull over. Most situations where I am lane sharing, it wouldn't be safe to stop discuss the situation. Maybe signal the driver to follow you off the freeway would be better. Then after realizing how hard it is to lane split in a car, they would just go on their way.

+1

I've only hit one mirror by making a pass I shouldn't have. Luckily it wasn't damaged and the guy just yelled for a few minutes after determining there was no damage to his mirror. Now, if there is not enough room, I just wait or find another way around.
