Looking of a .22lr rifle - Suggestions?

+3 on the CZ452. Best by far in that category... quality is significantly better than the competition, and they are such accurate shooters...

Now I want one of those CZ's. My little Savage/Stevens .22 is fun, but I'm lucky to get a 12" group at 100 yards with it. :laughing

I am familiar with CZ, but never shot the 452. At the listed price, it better damn well shoot near as good as my dad's Anschutz.

Not that good, but you're talking about a much more expensive competition/target rifle. Not a fair comparison ;)

CZ vs the typical guns in its category? No brainer.

That Anschutz was ridiculously accurate.

+1 more on getting the gun at City Arms in Pleasant Hill. Good folks. Ask for Roman and see if he'll let you pay in hobo dollars.

I'd second the recommendation for a henry lever action. just an all around fun gun for kids of all ages (even me at 39!) My personal breakdown of 22 rifles I own and have experience with:

CZ455 - This replaced the 452 that has been mentioned. It's a VERY well made rifle, and crazy accurate...my best .22 You are able to swap the barrel on these to 17HMR if that's something you'd be interested in.

Marlin Model 60 - Tube fed semi-auto. Been around since the 60's and holds 14 rounds. Nothing fancy about it but it is economical and also shoots pretty damn well. Bought this for my niece and she loves the thing...so do I.

Marlin 795 - Semi Auto, most economical. Again, not fancy, but it works, always. Edged out by the model 60 mentioned above I think.

Henry Lever Action - Surprisingly accurate, second only to my CZ. First place in fun factor, something about that lever action that makes it so enjoyable. Tube fed, holds 15 rounds of long rifle 22. Love this thing. This would be my recommendation. You can't go wrong, whatever you get is going to be fun, but this one would make a GREAT first rifle.

Also as the others have said, 22 ammo has been very scarce, BUT it is flowing in again finally...I don't think you'll have too much trouble sourcing some anymore.

there is another, higher velocity rimfire round out there I read about a while ago, but at this moment, ca't recall the exact caliber. like a 1.75 or something.
10/22 Ruger is industry standard. I personally like a wrist rocket slingshot, using readily available 3/4" granite. I used it for targeting in my yard, butgot weird vibes from the neighbors. Castro Valley can be really funny that way.
someone pisses you off bad enough, you can sling an icecube through their window...
city living sucks.
why there is a shortage of .22LR is a point of wonder. you just never fucking know..

Marlin 60 is pretty cool as its tube feed.
I have the Marlin 795, its stock is built for smaller frame humans ie kids and women. Light and most say it's more accurate out of the box compared to Ruger 10/22. It doesn't have the aftermarket like the 10/22, but if you're not looking to deck it out, I think it's pretty good.

Heh, my first gun :)
Christmas present when I was 12ish
Still have it, still accurate as heck

I have a CZ452 in .17hmr. :love the gun. It will shoot .5" groups at 100 if I can do my part. I sure do want a Henry like Joe's though. And I wish affordable/available .22lr would come back sometime soon.

I bought A Stainless Steel Tauras model 62 I believe with the youth size stock for my son years ago. Tube feed and pump actuated. A very nice little shooter and it won't rust.

Is that the one you loaned to me? That thing shot beautifully. :thumbup

The kid will likely be thrilled with whatever you get, and I recommend Roman at City Arms East as well. I have a 10/22 and it's awesome after adding Tech Sights, an auto bolt release and a bolt buffer, but there are cheaper options. I also have a carbine version of the Henry lever action and it is just stupid fun.

I remember my first .22...god I was so stoked to get that thing.
