Looking of a .22lr rifle - Suggestions?

Bastids. The EZ-Bake was my little sister's. :twofinger

Never got to shoot the oven, alas, but I did take to wandering off with that rifle, a pocketknife, a folded-up square of aluminum foil, and a lighter in the evenings. If I got a bunny or a quail I'd clean it, make up a little fire, and roast the meat in foil over the coals. Pretty awesome; I wish more kids got to grow up rural.

Just what every girl wants for Christmas, an easy-bake oven and a rifle. :party

Duh, she can go shoot a squirrel then cook it up.

I'm a huge fan of Marlins. The Model 60 was how I learned to shoot as kid. It's still a great rifle, and I think it's better out of the box than anything under $300. I also have a 39a lever action, that is great as well.
For a new bolt action, the Marlin XT22 or Savage MKII are good buys at $200ish.

first gun for a kid,

.22cal single shot, maybe a bolt/leaver action. no auto loaders.

learn to shoot good, not just sling lead down range.

With adequate supervision I don't know that it matters.

It matters.

With a simple device, he'll be able to safely shoot independently sooner :thumbup a kid who has mastered his/her own rifle, is a joy to behold

Henry Lever 22 are fun. I can fit I think 15 short cb's in there :teeth

Yeah, I had this thread a little while back. I was falling in lust with the Henry, but sort of talked myself out of it because of the weird .22 shortage, particularly in the North Bay.

Apparently it has been going on for like a year. I actually have gone and done some research into opening a small munitions factory the problem is so bad. It seems like a lot of money is being left on the table these days because of an inability to keep up with demand and I was wondering if it may be an opportunity I was missing.

I'm probably going to buy one of these Henry Rifles from Roman when supply the ammo gets back up.

go to big 5...they always have marlins and savages for about $160

I bought A Stainless Steel Tauras model 62 I believe with the youth size stock for my son years ago. Tube feed and pump actuated. A very nice little shooter and it won't rust.

I bought two of those for my kids.
They're both sensitive to what brand of ammo we put in them. Failures to eject are common.

I have a Winchester Model '06 pump action that's been in the family for three generations. The Taurus's are ok guns, but my daughter calls hers a wannabee Winchester '06.
I've seen various models of old Winchester pump action rifles available for well under $300. If there's a Cabelas near you, check with them.

This is mine.

No its not, but I like the "James Bond Training" Olympic event.

I just watched a women's biathlon this afternoon. They were all shooting those.

Russian biathlon rifle with regular stock. If you can afford one.

i have a 10/22 tactical takedown which was right at $300 for me. i've shot a couple of henrys and marlins. I've seen many customers order the cz and all of them love it. i have yet to shoot one myself though.

why not just bring your kids to the nearest gunshop and see what they can hold on their own without your help. just a thought.
