More Time To Get Fit - 2025

I'm 64, you're doing great for your age, I would have guessed you to be a bit younger.
 
I honestly thought we were much closer in age, and I am certain you’re in better shape than me.
 
i feel like Sisyphus right now with respect to my fitness but today, a completely arbitrary number has me feeling a bit better. i have not been walking the last couple of days so i can let the tendinitis mellow out as i am unable to take ibuprofen to help it settle down. i have been foam rolling religiously a couple times a day and it has made a big difference.

i cracked a 22 minute mile for the first time in a loooong time. i’m almost out of the “low” fitness range (VO2 max), too. mile one heading up a mild incline. mile two is going back down that same road.

Mount fitness is basically infinite and gets steeper the higher we climb. You may feel like Sisyphus, but as far as I know, that muthafucker was jacked :laughing

Been a week but finally hit the gym again last night. Was nice to get back in the gym although I got there later than I anticipated because my step daughter had an issue with her shower I went to take a look but silly me I didn't bring tools and she didn't have the right allen wrench to pull the handle off and look at the stem to see which one she needed to fix her leak. So tonight is bring tools stop by get that stupid handle off and then its leg day.

Monday was chest day and I am really liking the close grip bench press as it seems to really be helping me fill in my chest. I do my normal reps and then do as many sets of close grip regular and incline presses as I can.
 
Ditto. I added a CGBP to one of my days as well, several months ago. How close of a grip are you using? My hands are about two fists apart.

I think similar grip about one and a half or two fists. on an olympic bar the outside of my hand is touching where the innermost knurl on the bar starts. so when I bring it down my hands are hitting my pecs.


Forgot to add today is leg day and I had a shitty nights sleep last night couldn't turn off my brain so feeling wasted but gotta go anyways once I start making excuses is gets easier and easier to skip.
 
Good luck on leg day...I'm going on 3 hours sleep and feel like pull day's gonna suck ass. I like the idea of hands hitting pecs. Gonna try a set of that tonight to see if my wrists are straighter.

My final “big” race of the year is this Sat. I’m calling it a ‘C’ race, so I’m not stressing over it. But the whole weekend will be an adventure and I hope I’ll enjoy the race. Also, it’s a UCI Gravel World Championship Qualifier. So I could qualify for Gravel Worlds in Netherlands (which is in Oct and I’m def not going lol). Top 25% in age group qualifies. Wish me luck lol.

My final “big” race of the year is this Sat. I’m calling it a ‘C’ race, so I’m not stressing over it. But the whole weekend will be an adventure and I hope I’ll enjoy the race. Also, it’s a UCI Gravel World Championship Qualifier. So I could qualify for Gravel Worlds in Netherlands (which is in Oct and I’m def not going lol). Top 25% in age group qualifies. Wish me luck lol.

7:30am start for me on Sat. It might be 45F that early in the mountains. Thankfully it should be sunny and the air quality is clearing up.

Goal time is under 6:30. Stretch goal is age group podium - 40-44 is a fast group generally lol.

that’s right when i land at sfo. i’ll be sure to take a minute to send you a woohoo. i’m looking forward to hearing how ya did.
 
So last night was shoulder, bi's and tri's with a little forearm work thrown in.

shoulders aren't getting bigger so I decided to go ham and used the machine press and added more weight to try and break out of my shoulder blahs. was a little more worn than normal but didn't still seem like I was working hard so next week even more weight.

biceps got the olympic bar curl treatment and didn't put as much weight as forearm exercises were making my forearms cramp as I was pushing it with them but still kept increasing weight for each set instead of staying complacent.

triceps also got pushed more than normal but still think I need to go harder and may switch to something else as I am starting to get close to max weight on cable machine. maybe skull crushers or more single arm work to be able to up weight.

I really need to figure something out for the rear delts as I have done cable arm crossovers, rear delt raises and face pulls but cannot seem to get any growth back there and starting to get frustrated with them.

They have this thing for forearms at the gym where they have a wooden dowel with a rope through the middle and you use your hands to wind the rope around the dowel and raise the weight. damn if I don't feel that and I am only doing like 12 total sets with it.

My friend and fellow Palo Alto homeboy just won the masters BMX race last weekend.

Masters is 51 and over. Mr. T is 57.

He took third in his qualifier but got shafted on the gate spot being stuck on the outside. No hope and did not make the main finishing 5th.

If you run across a BMX bike in PageMill or Tunitas Creek that would be BMX HOF member Terry.

On a personal note my shoulder started to feel better until I did push ups today. F@CK!!

See the ortho on Tuesday.
Hopefully figure the shit out.

Ever tried incline bench supported barbell rows? Pretty good for RD isolations, IME. On the forearms; do you close your thumb to your index on a dumbbell lift/ push? Ever try cupping with the thumb instead? This drives some decent work to my forearms. YMMV.
