More Time To Get Fit - 2025

That smile was at the start of the climb up towards Iowa Hill…pretty sure it was gone by the time I had hit my 1k mark of the climb (just over 2k in elevation on the chart below). I also know I had a big “OH SHIT” look on my face during the descent, which was at 12%+. Had I seen this chart before my ride I probably would have sucked it up for another couple of hundred feet because the rest of the climb seems fairly mellow up to Iowa Hill.

So I missed rehab today because rehab is now being expanded.

Goal is to be on a moto in 4 months. Not sure how realistic that is but a goal has been set.
Don't forget that recovery is everything in between rehab sessions. The better you recover between each, the harder you can push in the next.

Is your issue bone, tendon/ligament or muscle or some combination? Recovery for each requires different things.

It’s not BS. We are happy to hear about your progress and obstacles you’ve overcome on your way to healing. I think your journey fits perfectly here. Especially since you had decided to get back in the gym too.

This thread is all about us supporting each other in our getting healthy endeavors although yours could fall under both as well budman but would like to see how you are doing in here.

Man work is really fucking with my weekly gym schedule lately it seems like at least one day a week I am on calls late into the evening and have to skip a day. Had to skip Monday due to work so I was thinking about doubling up on Tuesday but my left knee has been sketchy so I just made up chest day. I think I have hit my plateau where I could jump up 5lbs a week on the bench. I have kind of stalled at my current weight but I did miss a week in between so it could just be that we shall see. I would like to hit my goal of doing 225 for sets by the end of the year but not sure that is going to happen at my current pace but it will happen eventually even if I have to drop the bar on my face to make it.

Today is arms and shoulders but think I will wear a light knee brace to the gym and see if I can push out some machine leg presses.

been using my current On shoes for about a year and that seems to be about the time I have to replace them. Usually I can tell because my knees start to complain which is starting to happen so out with the On and I am going back to my old standby Brooks. got eh Adrenaline GTS 24 supportive shoe so we will see how it does. I like the On Cloud shoes but IDK they seem to get hinky quick for me so maybe should just stick with Brooks as they seem to last pretty much a year. Sucks being an old fat guy  its hard on your shoes.

I had my coaching mess up my workout schedule until I started riding at lunch time, that allowed me to ride 4 times a week through the whole track season including pre-season training.
Sometimes you have to get creative if your training is important. I know it keeps me healthier and keeps my knees healthier, so I make the adjustments.

100% THIS. Sometime sneaking in a little something is a lot better than not doing your "perfect" workout. Being flexible and having a big menu of workout options is really helpful.

Unfortunately my gym is about 20 minutes away so a lunch workout wouldn't work. I could try getting up earlier but I am a definite night owl and going to bed early enough to get my hours before gym time would be hard. Hopefully work will slow down and we won't have as big of issues cropping up that steal my time. Working on plans to hand stuff off sooner so I don't need to be on these calls for so long.

Can you take a dumb bell or two with you to work and sneak in a few sets during your lunch break? Some body weight squats, a couple sets of curls, push ups or pull ups if you can find something to hang from would make a decent "snack" if you realize you won't have time for the gym. Perfect is the enemy of good, something is always better than nothing. :thumbup

I switched from the Bro Splits several years ago and it turned out to be the best decision for overall growth (surprisingly), injury resistance, and schedule manageability I'm not 30 anymore and keeping my fitness and strength is important, but once I reached a size that's manageable and I switched to a FBS (Full body split) workout, things got so much better. The biggest benefit is; missing a day here and there doesn't have much, if any adverse affects. I can do 3 days a week or 5 days a week and be in roughly the same place. It's a complete overhaul if you're doing the Back/ Bi's, Chest Tris, Shoulders, Legs, splits, but IMO, I love the push/pull/ legs full body split workouts. Food for thought, given your time constraints.

So I looked up push/pull/legs and it seems like I am kind of doing it in a bro split kind of way. all of the exercises I do are the same in the one I looked up just broken up differently. I split to 4 days so I could spend more time with each group although even at one exercise per group I am still in the gym almost 60 minuets and I think I go pretty quick but I do around 16 to 18 sets a day. I do see some exercises I want to incorporate in my sets though maybe I need to add some variety as that may have stagnated as well to start triggering some more growth.

Riding at night in the rain is a bad idea where I live. Have recently done a couple of quick 9 mile rides at lunch. I’m going to look into a zwift or Kickr so I can do something when we have a week straight of rain like we normally do in the foothills. Otherwise I may have to transition back to a more running focused schedule for the winter.
