More Time To Get Fit - 2025

I stopped riding at night because it was simply too dangerous dealing with the idiots walking their dogs on long leashes and letting them cross in front of me. My lights were good but these idiots made it very unsafe. Twice I had to swerve hard just past the dog walker because the dog was off the path on my side with a leash in my way, and the stupid idiots didn't learn from the experience!!!

It’s not BS. We are happy to hear about your progress and obstacles you’ve overcome on your way to healing. I think your journey fits perfectly here. Especially since you had decided to get back in the gym too.
Thanks. Appreciate the thought. I got the PT 2
Dude to add shoulder work to his session. The
Mrs is helping too. In particular getting the distressed quad stretched and listening to my commands.

We delved into some of my history today. Think that gave him some insight on me and my experience with rehab.

Lots of suicidal bunnies on the trail tonight. Thankfully I managed to not run any of them over.

Fast downhill single track just hits different at night. I was 25% slower than my PR but it sure didn’t feel slow.

First day with new shoes is always the shit at the gym. Feels nice to leave and not have knee pain and I was fine all weekend. woohoo!

Now if I could only get these damn ankle cramps under control. for some reason my body likes to cramp on me at night. Even hitting the joints with the percussive massager is not helping sometimes or maybe I am rushing right before bed and not using it for long enough. thank god for icy hot at least that calms them down enough to go back to sleep but the smell ugh.

Looking forward to this week hoping to get a good 4 days in at the gym.

Ankle cramp?

Muscles cramp, joints do not. The muscles in the calf and foot control the ankle motion. I’d bet you’d want to massage those, if you find relief with massage. Massaging the tendons around a joint is risky IME and can lead to more inflammation. I’ve never tried to massage ligaments of a joint and prob won’t.

I can imagine that a new pair of shoes can lead to an increased workout, increase fatigue, and more cramping.

Usually it seems like the more exercise I do the less the cramps occur but lately it is noticeably more. I usually percussive massage my calf, the outer side of the shin and a little around the Achilles tendon. If it seems to be hitting bone or a nard spot I back off but so far those spots seem to help most of the time. Now that I think about it I have been outside a lot more but I have also been drinking way more electrolyte drinks while I am out there. Could it be too much electrolytes causing an uptick I wouldn't think so but who knows.

Uptick of electrolytes would not result in cramps.

When you say ankle, where on your ankle are you referring to? It could be that your shoes are too tight, it could also be that you're pushing the muscles that are cramping more than they're used to.

An abundance of electrolytes will result in extra pee and maybe slightly higher blood pressure.

Gunning the Achilles sounds downright awful 😂

What are the ingredients in the drinks?

I don't hit right on it I run on the outsides of it all the way down to the pocket by the ankle bone and foot. No pain but figure it hits the general area.

I think the normal electrolytes like potassium and sodium one has coconut water dried in it. usually name brand stuff like body armor, LMNT and Pedialyte.

Its just weird it happens at the oddest times sometimes on workout days others on the weekend when I am doing yardwork although I find if I take a multivitamin with dinner it seems to cut down on it happening so might be some kind of deficiency but not sure what.

went hard on chest day last night. Did flat bench, close grip flat bench, close grip incline bench, iron cross cable, and a front lift with cables. shoulders are feeling it today along with the chest.

Have to do some errands after work so am going to try and fit in some lunges during the day to get some leg work done before errands.

Both my wife and I have experienced something similar to what you describe when we’re running. Turns out it was a shoe issue. It had to do with the drop of the shoe and for us it was not enough drop. 0 drop shoes were absolutely the worst. I know everyone has their favorite shoes because they feel great but sometimes when you actually put them to work (running, lifting, cycling) that’s when you find out they don’t work for you. I was not a fan of Hoka or Topo when I started running because they felt odd when I would try them on and walk around in them. Turns out they work when using them for what and how they were designed. I would suggest talking to a podiatrist because it may not be a typical food/water/electrolyte related cramp thing but rather mechanical issue.

I did go to a running store and had my gait checked and so far no issues there. The issue isn't when exercising its at night while trying to sleep. Could be weird angles on my feet as I am a stomach sleeper so my feet are cockeyed while sleeping and half hanging off the bed but have always had issues with cramps at night the percussive massager works wonders for calf cramps at night and this ankle/whatever thing that is causing that area to feel like a cramp is something new.

If you're cramping at night, the most common cause is insufficient electrolytes, a less common cause would be dehydration.

I get the powdered electrolytes, no sugar added. You may be taking electrolytes but the amount you're taking may not be enough.
