One thing I've noticed is the number of really young looking head coaches in both the NFL and top college teams.
How long has this trend been going on?
Seems like it's somewhat hard to really gauge the quality of a coach when they've moved up so fast. I know there are several who weren't nearly as good as their reputation, I can't help wondering how many know how to imitate their mentors but like any imitation aren't nearly as good as the real geniuses. It's one thing to do the same things, but if you don't really understand the foundation that knowledge is based upon, you can't make the adjustments to any flaws in the schemes as the game continues to evolve.
Meh. The trend exists all over. Coaching is no different. How many CEO's are <50. As groups of people chase shiny things, less qualified old people exist to fill the roles. Then someone catches fire with some slightly younger person, the media goes ballistic because shiny object and its a copy cat league. Also, don't forget about the garbage teams that are just grasping at straws. They don't care about 3,5,7 years down the road. Just insert a shiny object and keep it moving. Tickets/beers are sold and the results continue.
