pepper sprayed for "walking too close"

More like walking blithely unaware on the sidewalk and a car hits you, but you go girl.

Like I said a few posts ago, you and several others are ok with the teacher being sprayed in the face with pepper spray solely because he was in the wrong place, and had the fucking audacity to not pay attention to his immediate surroundings.
I am not for one second saying the world must stop because of this...I am saying the cop was waaay out of line doing what she did.

Odd how none of the other officers standing next to her saw him as a threat. :dunno

She may have been. I can understand HER viewpoint, you can't.

As far as the teacher, he needs to grow up and be aware of his surroundings. He wasn't walking the sidewalk, he was walking in a dangerous place, too close to a police where he should be watching what he was doing. If he had been walking down the sidewalk and she ran up and sprayed him, I'd be outraged. I'm not in this case, as his behavior is negligent and dangerous. He brought it on himself.

............ you and several others are ok with the teacher being sprayed in the face with pepper spray ............

uh yeah... NO

Understanding something doesn't mean that you condone it. At least it doesn't in MY world :dunno

Just trying to avoid fantasy land, and stay in reality....... why would you think that the jackers or killers will be prosecuted ? I'm pretty sure the statistics will say otherwise.

Either way, as a motorcyclist I've learned that who's "right" or "wrong" doesn't fucking matter if I'm the one twisted into a bleeding bag of bones... it's best to stick to reality ( reality as in: who cares if I had the right of way, if I'm dead and the driver who was in the wrong gets a traffic fine as a result) and take personal responsibility for my safety. Does that make me a victim hater ? :facepalm

Love the hyperbole about the rapey shit, when did you stop beating your dog ? ( yeah, I can do that shit too :twofinger )

Your world may vary.

I don't care about whether or not the killers or jackers are actually caught or prosecuted, I'm saying I morally would hold them responsible for their actions.

You're making my point, and I appreciate it. In this instance, the cop willfully sprayed someone who did not need to be sprayed...unless you are justifying her actions to make it ok. Notice the male officers have no qualms with the teacher or anyone else?
In your scenario, your accident would be caused not by an accidental foray into your lane by an inattentive driver, it is caused by someone angry at a motorcycle that hit their car a block beforehand, and is now actively trying to force all motorcycles off the road.
You're still dead, but let's go ahead and pursue charges against the driver, shall we?

You know for a fact what POV's I understand? :rofl

I have the same viewpoint as every other cop in that line. :laughing

You notice every other cop in that line didn't give a shit when he got sprayed or do anything? :laughing I assume that's your viewpoint.

I've never been in the world where everything is always 100% the fault of one party or the other. I suppose that's a pretty orderly place to live, :hail for finding it ! :twofinger

Sadly, I still live in this place that's messy and full of paradoxes.... In THAT world, the lady LEO prematurely shot her wad, and the dude talking on the phone had completely abdicated his own personal safety. Yep, both people were dumb. Last I heard, failure to obey a LEO's lawful instruction can lead to consequences.... sucks, but there it is.

:rolleyes I am aware that the entire crowd is viewed as dirty hippie protestors. Do you really expect the other cops to be all "OH MY GOD BECKY YOU TOTALLY SPRAYED THE GUY THAT DIDN'T DESERVE IT" :rofl :rofl

I actually meant the fact that they didn't give a shit about the teacher. Funny that the gal with the sprayer is the only one that sees him as a threat...or in your eyes, deserving pf pepper spray for the sole crime of being unaware. :thumbup :twofinger

Actually, let's hear from one of our resident LEO's on the matter...

Some people aren't cut out for police work. She might just be one of those people.
Never mind, what the fuck does Bo know about an officer's point of view, amirite? :rofl

I have never painted it in any other light.
Why is it so hard to fathom the fact that it has everything to do with me thinking the gal should face consequences, and NOT that the universe should somehow stop because a teacher got sprayed? :laughing

I get it, you're dead and you should have avoided that car that was driving the wrong way down a one-way street. I still blame the driver more than you. :love

I'm ok with the Master Blaster being held accountable. On the other hand, I'm glad I get to see this type of youtube, to remind me how quick and randomly shit can get sideways.

:laughing yeah, now I'm a little angel, watching over you :love

( hey, get back to work !! :x )

But wait. That's not what you said. You said your point of view was that of the other police. I don't get it.

Yup, Bo said might.

C'mon, now you're being obtuse.
No other police officer in the line was concerned about the teacher, nor did they appear to be of the mind that someone who isn't paying attention deserves a shot to the face.
But you knew that. :twofinger

I don't think anyone here, and certainly not me, are arguing the lady cop reacted appropriately. I just don't think it's anywhere near criminal. At most I'd expect it to be part of her performance evaluation, but I suspect her union will cover her back. I don't like that, but it's a union thing, not a cop thing.

I thought I asked before, but wonder your take on how this incident could have and should have been prevented. I'm very open to those suggestions, but aside for an over-reaction from a stressed out cop I don't see this as anything more than an emotionally charged YouTube clip.

FWIW. I've been the guy in the wrong place at the wrong time before, similar to your guy at the party.

You are factually incorrect. Several people are perfectly ok with the way everything went down, and are justifying her use of the spray.

And I agree; it was an over-reaction from someone who probably shouldn't be a cop anywhere but Mayberry.
