Today's goal - north to Indian Valley and Cambridge. Maybe down into Hells Canyon.
With apologies to Robert Frost: said:
Two roads diverged in [the hills], and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
This is the point where I made the road choice, the wrong choice, that sent me into the mud and snow. This photo was after I made it back out and stopped for lunch. Talked to the people in the background with the Yamaha side-by-side and they assured me that the other road wouldn't be too tough all the way to Indian Valley.
A little mud with snow on the edges, how bad could it get?
This was the point where I was thinking "It could be just two more miles of this or it could be twenty-five". Time to turn around.
After getting the bike turned around. Not easy alone with close to zero traction on snow.
Coming back out it seemed like the muddy/snowy part was about ten times as far as it had been going in. Still got a ways to go at this point.
On the correct road, at a high point. Only a little mud on this road.
An idle center-pivot irrigation system - probably in a hay field.
Indian Valley was the destination. This was the only other road choice I had to make all the
way north.
Getting gas at Cambridge. I was considering going down into Hells Canyon if I had enough time, but it was 33 degrees coming into town there and 32 on the way out. Heading down into Hells Canyon would have been stupid to the extreme. Notice the big snow banks in the background. And as soon as I got over a couple of passes it warmed up at least 10 degrees.
