S1KRR...The new squid bike?

Doubt it, Squids tend to prefer low costs, and 600's don't they?

Now the Electronic Management is a Magnet for the "not bother to learn how to use the controls", bunch...But Kawasaki and Honda are cutting edge, along with BMW.

You seen what a new 600 costs? Low cost my ass.

Squog is the new squid.

When does BMW come out with Digital Cornering Control?

I never said New...Just low cost and 600's.

If the Squid can pull off New, or only gets ratted out old...isn't my call.

Gixxrs have been with us for longer than most squids have been alive.

That makes it a low cost choice, for them.

a japanese 1000cc cost as much or near a "high cost" european bike these days and monthly payment difference would be 20-50 bucks (depending on interest) but with japanese financing being more conservative and restrictive of late, more european bikes would be easier to purchase thus giving them bragging rights for most bikes sold..

but those same euro manufacturers actually getting paid for those bikes may be a different story...:p

Meh, most squids I see are rolling on newer and nicer bikes than mine. At least this year my bike will be one color.

back on topic...the average squid isn't even aware of the bmw superbike nor can they spell bmw so it's not gonna be on their radar yet...

/N, /F. Gixxers are amazing bargains, just like Z28 Camaros and GT Mustangs. The new BMW has a couple extras but mostly offers only extra cost.

Pretty sure you get more power and better safety equipment(ABS and TC) and only a marginal price increase.

Don't underestimate the value of heated grips.

^^^^ I coulda givin That Speech, charged Guru Big Bucks, for it....But...My opinions are priceless...:laughing...That is, I get paid Nothin, and no one listens.

:rolleyes
For $18K dollars, I can make any GSXR 1K superior to a new
S1KRR. ;)

You are going to build a 1-off TC and ABS system for $4500? Heated grips are another $20. That is going to be tight on the budget!

MoTec makes that stuff. Check out Durbahn's CBR600RR trackbike build.

Pretty sure a S1kRR retails for the same($13,800) as a GSXR 1k($13,500), and it still has more power without the technology stuff. Or are you going to try to make up the power difference with 300 dollars?

Nick, if we're talking brand new, you can buy GSXRs for $12K otd all over. Pretty sure you can't get a BMW for less than $15K otd anywhere. Any how you slice it, there's gonna be at least $3K cost difference.
I was thinking more along the lines of something used, mint, low miles, as old as 02-08 for $3500-$6500 as a starting point for the Gixxer. :teeth

Holy shit... just saw the sticker price of the Gixxer 600! $11,600? For a 600?

AFAIK, you really can't build a bike around a Motech ECU for less than $6000 aftermarket, nevermind the tuning and development work -- it's not a simple drop-in procedure.

You could slap a Bazzaz or Yoshimura ECU in a GSXR, but a simple spin-up traction control is not competitive with the system BMW runs. Honestly, BMW is the only company putting MotoGP level TC on a low-cost sport bike.

Exactly. The early indications that something is a squid bike is the interest rates being paid.

THe long term indication is the number of parts on ebay.

QFT. Keep an eye on eBay. :laughing
