S1KRR...The new squid bike?

My first bike was a 2005 R1. Does that make me a squid? I had 10 years of offroad experience which is some of the best preperation.

it's the first thing people say to me when they see my bike: "what's wrong with your front headlight? it looks broken."

Coincidentally, it wasn't raining when I had it in rain mode either.

But seriously... you don't need slicks to ride in that mode, smart guy. You don't get more power between slick mode & race / sport modes (rain mode is the only one with less power). They just have different thresholds for ABS, tilt sensor, DTC, ECU etc. & because I wasn't at the track, it wouldn't make a difference.

So, it was an issue that the dealer wouldn't put it into a mode that you had no intents of using? Isn't that like complaining that your girl won't PIITB, and then saying that you had no intent of PIITB anyway?

AFAIK though, the TC can be turned off with a push button. So, if you want to wheelie the bike, or want to know what it's like to ride without the TC, there you go.

This post is ghey (not the ghey like in two guys touching each other) but like the Harley loud exhaust pipe ghey.

If you were to have a rich squid, yes he (or she) could be a squid on an S1RR, but no, S1000RR are gentlemen's sport bikes.

Please, that comparison is meaningless. The GSXR can be had for way under retail and without the TC option you won't even be able use the power difference of the BMW, because the bike will put the average rider on his head if they tried. Nobody's gonna buy the base BMW.

Umm, you won't be able to really use the power of the GSXR without putting the average rider on his head either. You can't have it both ways. Seems like if you're willing to ride the GSXR with no computer aids, you're willing to ride the S1k the same way.

Now, it's a legitimate question whether you can find one for purchase without the gizmos, but it's not like you can't ride without them.

And as a squid, you'd still get bragging rights..

I am not sure slick mode is street legal in CA...at least I think I remember reading something to that effect..

Sounds like a fanboy said that. No requirement for TC on motorcycle = DEFINITELY not illegal to turn it off if the bike has it.

His point was more that the additional power of the beemer isn't an advantage without the TC so, in effect, the additional cost isn't worth much.

I think, once you exceed about 70 horsepower on a street bike, there isn't much use for additional power at all. Additional power is there for abuse... Fuck, my BMW, which weighs 50% more than any literbike, and is a foot and a half longer, can wheelie with 160 horsepower, and can easily hit 60MPH in the 4 second range.

Just curious, how many people on here that bash the S1000RR have spent an extended period of time on the bike?

To me it's the riding gear that makes a squid not the bike . If I had the money for one with out having to finance there would be one in my garage . So to me the BMW 1000RR is just another awesome bike that will eventually have a flip flop , quarter bucket helmet ,tea shirt and shorts wearing squid trying to do wheelies down the road .

My experience is with chasing one. Does that count?

I didn't read this thread so much as a direct bash on the S1000RR, more like an observation that a lot of over-reaching or newer riders have been attracted to it as the latest and greatest; and thus we see more wrecked, or as the vehicle of choice for the reckless (squid) behavior.

There was even a suggestion that maybe BMW is looser in their financing than the Japanese manufacturers have been in the tough times.

Bring on the crashing....
Apparently we aren't going to see any Ubber Hot Street fighterized S1000RR's Until there are S1000RR's totaled by insurance company's cause the fairing is trashed.

So let the plastic trashing begin.

I don't think BMW is easy to get financed the last 2 BMW I bought where turned down by their financing and my credit score is above 825 so when they said no I just had a credit union do the deal.
