So a little off topic, but last week I bought an ipad mini for work. There are several apps I need and can only get on the ipad. Nevertheless, I have been using the ipad for a week or so and while it is a nicely built platform there are several major issues that would prevent me from owning an iphone.

It really surprises me when anyone tries to compare the android eco system with the OS. OS is years behind the functionality of android to the point that it really not even a close contest.

A few items that drive me crazy on OS.

No back button
No menu button
No multitasking
No widgets (major drawback)
No duel screens (home screen and all apps) (OS only allows you to view all the apps or to put them in a folder)
Business apps seem to much more costly on App Store over Play Store, with fewer trial versions
Complete lack of customization
Did I say no Widgets!!!!

On the pros:
Nice build quality
Nice price ($220 for a 16 gb)
Like idea of lightening cable being able connect both ways
Lots of accessories
Good camera and video editing software

Overall I am not impressed with the ipad software and if I did not really need it for work I would have taken it back.

Most of the things you listed are not really drawbacks. Just preference. For instance, the back button. Iphones have it too, but it's located on the top left of the screen. When you find a page that doesn't have one, just hit the home button. It's no different. The multi tasking thing MIGHT be a concern but I've never had to use two screens at once. Androids no longer have menu buttons as it has been replaced by the recent tasks button. The widget thing is meh. I only use the weather/clock widget.

The SD card and removable battery are the only REAL advantages of Android at this point. But as you can see, Samsung has already gotten rid of that and I'm sure the others will follow suit shortly. Honestly, if Apple had a good display, SD card and better or removable battery, I prefer it over Android.

Yes I've rooted and installed custom ROMs and kernels etc.. It is never as stable as Apple.

Now I will say this much, Samsung is doing good things with their software. It is VERY smooth and enjoyable compared to their older versions of TouchWiz

Widgets are big deal to me half of everything I use on my phone are widgets. Not having them make it feel like the dark ages.
Multitasking is not using two screens its going between apps easier without going back to the home screen.

And the back button is in the app not the hardware which makes it difficult if the app does not have one.

Um, you know if you double click the home button you can multi task with the iPhone. Again, the back button does NOTHING different than the back button on the top left screen of the iPhone. If you are one of those who hit the back button multiple times to get back to the home screen, it is unnecessary and wastes more battery doing so. Hitting the home button once is better. The widget thing is a preference. Again for me, not so important.

You can more or less do everything with either platform. The extra steps or less steps to get things done is preference.

Thanks for the tip on the double tap the home button that works well. We will agree to disagree that both platforms can more or less do everything the other can do. :teeth

Like, freaking egg-zactly! I can't believe how can one not feel restricted by an iOS interface. Mind,

Some say.. "a clean interface". Yeah, an empty room is clean too. :|

Try loading a movie (.mkv, .mpg) on your ios device. That's where it gets real fun.
