Santa Clara County Lockdown

So the consensus is for me is
stay home and die slowly, polish my riding boots for my burial.

No flying off the edge of Hwy1, hacking a lung out when I catch it.

Yesterday, surfing the rock.
Legal?

No. cars were used to get there.
Only allowed to walk.

This is going to last all summer ya know.
Run a poll to see who wins?

Martial law, want some?

Please keep it respectful folks.

I would advise no licking door knobs.

How about STFU, don't be a selfish little cunt and sit your fucking ass home for a few weeks instead of looking for loopholes to get around this order???! It won't kill ya to chill the fuck out for a few weeks, this is not a game, billions of people around the world are trying to work together to end a global pandemic. Some people... :rolleyes
Well, I am trying to tone down my responses because I have a couple of barfers trying to ban my sorry old ass. So, you will be my surrogate.
Just curious, what situation do you envision that places a single rider in a position that will create any more of a problem than the 40 people I saw out walking their dogs today or the dozens upon dozens I saw on the bike path?
As mention, any accident is a problem. If you have a REAL need to get out, like stopping the dog from pooping on the carpet, I can understand, but anything else, besides food and medicine is bull shit. You can be carrying the virus and not have a clue. Just ISOLATE so we, humans, can win. Thanks.
Anybody can go out and do what they want. It's not marshal law. Do it at your own risk though.
Dont be a Darwin Award winner, stay home :)
What if you are a carrier? How about you stay home for 2-3 weeks just to let the virus die inside you? I don't know if it will die or be like the Alien, but I would probably die from this fucking thing, so I would appreciate if people stopped spreading the damn thing around. Thanks for saving the world.

Wife and I are both "essential" so we're screwed. I thought the dog was the only person that thought I was essential.

I like that you called your dog a person.

thats how I feel about my dogs. :Port

Please be civil. It really harshes my buzz when folks say STFU and call folks cunts an other unnecessary extreme and rude stuff. This is like our clubhouse, eh?

Please? These are difficult times.

It's not about the risk of just a solo rider crashing and putting additional burden on the health care system; it's about everyone banding together for the collective good in this difficult time.

If it's ok for a solo rider to disregard the government order to limit non-essential travel, what about the other riders? If riders can disregard the order, why should any drivers obey it? Where does that selfish, me-first mentality lead us?

I ate out 6-7 times a week and rode 1-2 times a week. Right now not being able to eat out bugs me a lot more than not being able to ride. Having said that, there are way bigger problems out there right now. :(

Is it essential or expendable ? Im in the same boat I think we should all be home

As much as I want to say fuck em and go ride I think I'll stay home.

I think I will as well. I am still working (I provide support to essential services). So I get to ride to work,

The objective of staying home is to avoid being sick, as to not tax the poor healthcare system we have. Everyone avoiding sickness "flattens the curve" and keeps our healthcare system under-stressed.

The 40 people out walking their dogs, and other pedestrians around town are arguably less likely to end up in the healthcare system than a motorcyclist where a strong percentage of accidents are caused by our own rider error.

It may be a bit overly grim but in doctors in Italy have a shortage of beds and essentially having to decide who lives and who dies. We aren't at that point yet, and the current lockdown is a collective effort to ensure we don't. If a rider is taking up a bed because they failed to navigate a corner, taking up medical resources and the time of professionals, it would come across as needless and easily avoidable.

We are lucky enough to ride in one of the best places for motorcycling year round on fabulous roads. I can give up 3 weeks of good behavior to pay it forward for all the shenanigans I enjoy the rest of the year. I hope everyone can share a similar sentiment.

I've read the reports from Italy. It's frickin' grim.

You can still get take out or order in in San Francisco. I work with restaurants. They are so fucked right now. Thousands of jobs lost just with our clients. :(

It is legal to ride dirtbikes at Carnegie and Hollister right now. I would not get hurt, as the healthcare system has priorities.

We have good judgement sometimes, correct?

I know they are talking about curve flattening, and understand it will produce a prolonged at-home quarantine, and more severe economic consequences for many, but with the benefit of saving many lives (likely 10's of thousands in the US alone). Voluntary quarantines will likely become less voluntary if ppl don't cooperate.

I don't want to beat the selfishness horse too much, but if you knowingly spread the disease, you might as well have pulled the trigger on a gun.

I don't believe this will be over in the original three weeks of the order, I expect the peak will occur in 3-6 weeks, as it has in other countries. Large parts of our nation are living lives that are unchanged (and thus spreading the virus), a few lockdowns in a few counties isn't going to stop that IMHO, but even slowing it down can help, some.

On the lighter side, I for one am supporting my local chinese restaurant with lots of takeout and larger-than-normal tips, I want those guys to still be there when this is over. :)

In the meantime I don't leave the house except to pick up food and medicine. Luckily I have a large family and unlimited text and long-distance calling. We are all supporting each other at this point, and most of us are working from home in voluntary isolation.

I successfully hoarded 30 days supply of stuff by last wednesday, I was pretty sure it would come to this, and that we would see an Amazon slowdown at some point too. It has all come to pass. The surprise is how quickly it happened. And it has really only just begun.

I don't expect that food supplies will stop. After the deaths caused by the virus, the next big thing to worry about will be the huge numbers of people put out of work, restaurant and hotel workers to start with, and many others, how many of them can live for 3-6 months of very little economic activity. They have declared a moratorium on evictions, good, that and food will tie ppl over. But it is going to get worse before it gets better, and no way it's over in a few weeks.

Brace yourselves. The ancient Chinese curse of "may you live in interesting times" is upon us now. And no, I don't blame the Chinese for this. This isn't the time for blame, it's time for cooperation.

First of all, I didn’t see anyone specifically targeted with ‘rude’ comments, they were all comments directed to all people in general.

That said, I will make this ‘personal’ and specifically to you because I’m frankly disappointed in your attitude. Just yesterday you were posting about the plight of healthcare workers dealing with this virus and today you’re still at it, encouraging people to go riding when all six Bay Area counties have specifically ordered residents to ‘shelter in place’. Really Butch? Really?? I respect you so much for what you do for offroad riding rights but then you post stuff like that and it just blows my mind. You’re retired (afaik), you have time to ride more than most people, but you can’t just take a break for a little while? We’re in the middle of a historic global pandemic that human kind hasn’t seen in generations, perhaps ever, and we have people posting potential loopholes so they can still leave their house (unnecessarily!) and go riding for pleasure. C’mon man, park the damn bike for a little while, read a few books or knock out some overdue projects around the house, be a team player when billions of other people on this planet are trying to prevent this virus from spreading. Look at Italy for God’s sakes, do you want to help flatten the curve in the US or have us spiral out of control like Italy? Please Butch, for the love of God, park the damn bikes for a little while!

@kurth83 I didn't come here to call you out, but in one sentence you say you "successfully" hoarded food for 30 days, then later you say its a time for cooperation? As long as you got yours, its time for cooperation? got it.

What magic is going to happen in 3 weeks, or 6 weeks, or 6 months of quarantine? There won't be a vaccine, people will have died, and we'll have ruined 10's of 1,000's of small businesses in the process (nation wide). It's ironic that people die every day on motorcycles yet we all ride them in some capacity, accepting the risk and advocating for the sport. People choose not to ride because it's too risky, essentially self quarantining. The virus is here, it will mutate, the genie ain't going back in the bottle.

Second & third paragraphs, my post in "on location pix".

I passed six riders on my 47 mile ride, all of them on the goaty roads.
Also an older couple 70/80's parked the car on the goaty rd, fresh air, patchy sun, green hills, a sprinkle poppies, and water running along the road. Out for a country walk away from everyone.

I have been relying on dining out for years now, I passed on the pie stop.
This is going to mess with me, I have to cook, I really have to shop now :thumbdown

Coronavirus

Great thread for the most part...minus just a little negativity. We're all human and this is some serious shit...so let's be serious barfer's and keep ourselves healthy which in turn will keep your neighbors, family and coworkers out of harms way. I'm going overboard on all the sanitary recommendations and 6 foot social distancing rule. I will ride my motorcycle to work if it's not freezing out or raining. I don't think this is unreasonable or selfish. I'm never worried about crashing my motorcycle...frankly I'm more likely to spin my crew-cab truck on hwy 17 than lay my bike down.

Now I'm not going to go out on one of my Mines Rd fast paced runs or due any track days. Very slim chance of crashing, but more likely than a leisure ride to work in good weather. Be safe everyone and don't go out and buy a gun because you think there's going to be looting and riots etc. :ride The motorcycle community is made up of some smart people and I have faith we'll all be at a big bike rally when this is all over. Maybe Budman will set something up?

Later,

Come on people, no one riding on a empty road is putting anyone other than themselves at risk.

That said, if you all think this is going to be over in a few weeks, you need to look at Italy. We waited too long like they did and we have less hospital beds to people than they do. We fired our Pandemic Czar and CDC leadership 2 years ago and didn't stock pile supplies. It's going to be just as bad or worse. Start planning for months and be prepared that restrictions and challenges are going to get worse not better anytime soon.

This isn't going to be easy. But the good news is it could be a lot worse. "Always look on the bright side of life..."
