Santa Clara County Lockdown

Just to ensure MC commute demographic is represented - for those of us in "essential" occupations who still have to show up somewhere - I don't think riding to work is socially irresponsible, quite the opposite - solo MC commuting is by definition social distancing... more responsible than riding public transit IMO, less dangerous now on the freeway than it ever has been, in as long as I can remember. I've changed a lot of behavior these last few weeks but still need to get to work, MC is always how I've done it.

Be safe, keep your distance, stay healthy everyone.

I am essential. I have no car. Therefore, I am riding to work.

I assume he meant the common flue kills more people in numbers so far, but not understanding the fact that covid-19 has way higher mortality rate than flue. If allowed to spread unchecked, covid-19 will kill way more people than the common flue.

Ah fair point, and yeah, so far the common flu is ahead, I'm certainly hoping it continues to hold it's lead.

It won't. Guaranteed. Do your homework.

San Francisco had only six new cases over yesterday, going from 70 to 76 cases. I am hoping that our sheltering in place is the reason for this slower increase than previous days.

Thank god for mercury news being the only californian newspaper that isn't paywalling COVID information.

I just can't believe this is going to continue like this until the vaccine comes out in 18-24 months. At least the air quality will be fantastic. I wonder if motorcycle sales will skyrocket.

It’s like the seventies... quiet, minimal traffic, but the apricot and cherry trees are gone...

I like that you called your dog a person.

thats how I feel about my dogs. :Port

Checked with my doggo tonight and she says I'm essential. Food, walks and belly rubs so that's settled.

Left China Basin area tonight (Friday) around 5:40 heading for Benicia. Absolutely NO traffic. I think I stuck the cruise control at 80 and that was it. 80-580-24-680-780. Was kind of freaky. Not Omega Man freaky, but still...

1) recreational riding is "non essential travel" and we're being asked to not do that.

We are not on lockdown. Shelter in place is even a bad name for it. We are practicing 'social distancing'. As long as you can keep your distance on and off the Moto, do it. Do it to stay sane.

March 20, 6:20 p.m. The San Jose Fire Department announced Friday night that 13 firefighters have tested positive for coronavirus.

Their conditions were not reported, and no other information on the infected was made available. 75 additional individuals may have been exposed, and are being monitored.

Yup, there ya go, 13 first responders off the job for at least two weeks, and countless other people who they've been in contact for the past ten days will be in self-quarantine, likely many other first responders. But hey, we are so self-important that we can't possibly park our collective asses for a few weeks in order to alleviate the burden on first responders and medical staff; they haven't technically put us on 'lockdown' yet and are still counting on human decency to 'shelter in place' but we'll play this fridiculous 'sanity' card because we simply must continue playing with our toys, screw everybody else... :rolleyes

I've been riding and racing motorcycles for 30+ years, I have a garage full of bikes (including a brand new one that I love and put 2k miles on last month) but somehow I'm able to find this superhuman strength to look at them every day and leave them alone for a while. So yeah, please spare me the 'sanity' bs, that's a load of crap! :thumbdown

Umm... You're wrong.

Nonessential gatherings of any number of people are banned. Residents are also limited to leaving their homes only for “essential” reasons, such as to obtain medications, shop for groceries and supplies, care for family members and exercise outdoors.

Gary it's lost to these people. Just take notes of all the stupid posts and when the final death toll comes out and we hear about multiple deaths from BARF we can public shame these posts. That's my plan.

SHAME SHAME SHAME!

Since I can't go for a ride, I can at least call out the tone-deaf people with their heads in the sand for fun. :laughing

But, but... what about the "sanity" and the "throttle therapy"?? :rolleyes If you're wondering why China contained their crisis and why Italy spiraled out of control, now you have your answer... and we are ripe to follow in their footsteps, with California having a predicted 56% infection rate. Although I'm still a bit disappointed that I have to explain to my 17-year old daughter that she really can't have her friends or boyfriend come over, I really didn't think I'd have this debate with grown-ass men.

Un-fricken-believable!!! :mad
