On topic update.

Wifey was in Reno last night so she swung by Dolan to have a closer look at the 22 or newer (updated) NX350h for size, features, comfort, etc.

They didn't have any hybrids so she test drove a standard one.

She liked the size, features, comfort. Salesman tried to convince her she doesn't need the hybrid but that didn't go over well. They said they don't see any on their incoming radar except for a red one which is a hard no.

as she was getting ready to leave she got in her car and looked over and there was a NX350h parked right next to her with the window sticker on it in the color she wanted with the interior she wanted.
She went back in and asked the salesman and he said it was their newly received courtesy car and that they couldn't sell it. She pressed him a little bit and he said that there's no way they could sell that unit until they've had it a year.
She was quite a bit disappointed.

Now we are looking for units elsewhere. Roseville is the closest and has three in stock and we'll continue to search outward to get the right combination of colors and package. I'm going to avoid paying $450 for lighted door sills if it kills me.

Yes the NX is small, but with me keeping several larger vehicles, this is just going to be the daily driver, errand runner and commuter, and can probably take the four of us down to the bay if we don't pack too much crap.

Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is great to have. I could no longer buy a car without it.

I prefer wired. Less battery killing.

New cars now come with wireless phone chargers. Get in ,set phone on charger, done!.

Eh...I get it. Mine are wired. But sometimes it's just nice to get in and go. Plus if you take care of the way you charge your phone, you don't have to worry about degrading the battery faster by constantly charging it (debatable!).

Also, you got me looking at cars and bids and lo and behold...Rob, you can do this!

Lol that the seller actually put that car in a studio for the pictures. I gotta say, it’s awful clean. Even has the original sticker…who the hell saves the sticker for a car like that?!?

And yeah that would be super tempting to buy it, immediately yoink the anemic 305 out of there, put in some disgusting supercharged LS build, and start terrorizing kids in their new M3s or whatever.

This. The Exploder has wireless CarPlay and charging but if I’m going to dig the phone out to put on the wireless charger, I’ll just plug it in instead. The wireless charging system always makes my phone hot to the touch and I really don’t like that.

rear facing 3rd row seats... i would get a semi transparent sticker for the rear window of a couple kids with their faces smashed against the glass like the driver just hammered the throttle and they didn't have seatbelts on

:laughing

fuck cars and bids 4.5%

i just wanna start a cars and bids auction site and only charge 3.5% commission

tbh im just sour its 4.5%, if it were like 1-2% id be ok, (like a credit card riiiiight) but 4.5% just cuz its listed for thousand dollar vehicles is nuts.

And it didn't sell :laughing

It's a pretty niche car, either way. And BaT isn't exactly an accurate representation of the market either. That site exists solely for rich assholes to out-asshole each other lol

Yeah, TBH, fuck BAT. Once Hagerty bought them tho, they'll use values on their site to backup stated values for their classic polices. It's helped me significantly.

BAT rejected my submittal for our 2003 41K Yukon Denali in 9/10 condition. Said it just wasn't what they were looking for then 6 months later accepted a 7.5/10 w/ 39K. I guesstimated mine would go for $25-30K. This one went for $28K and change. I ended selling mine to one of my guys for $18K before this one was listed.

So yeah...fuck BAT!

Don't look, DO NOT LOOK. That site is a horrible addiction.

That car is PERFECT for a film industry vehicle supply firm. Something I'd LOVE to get into...the stuff they put in now has all the wrong paint, super clean, etc. Totally unrealistic.

It IS a rip off kinda...but it does cap out at round $70K I think? Too lazy tro look...

Yeah you’re totally right. It’s not some collector car museum piece (like say, a Grand National from that year), so someone in that business could afford to pick that up and store it in the fleet. More importantly for that business, it’s all original so it’s “period correct” as much as I can’t believe I’m saying that for something I’ve seen driving around new in my lifetime. But it is in fact a 30+ year old vehicle, and even the most common ones of their day are getting real hard to find in clean all original condition.

This particular car is clean enough that it could be used for close up/interior shots and not just one of the dozens of background cars that might be needed for any particular wide shot.

Update:
We were contacted by the sales guy we first met at Reno Lexus. He saw a 23 NX350h coming in a few weeks that fit our bill and we have a refundable deposit in it.
Nori green exterior, base trim level (smaller main screen being the biggest difference which is great by me, I don't want to drive an ipad), tan interior, cold weather package, grey 18" rims, some other stuff, no ADM, but they do add a bunch of dealer add-ons like window tint, paint protection crap that apparently you can't refuse?!? (bs)
Price is good, it doesn't have the huge 14" touchscreen or the thematic illumination that get so much attention but I'm happy about that
Should be in by mid Dec.

Now we will have too many cars again, and I should sell one (or two or three) but I can't decide. Ugh.
I love my three impractical classic cruisers, the gx470 will still be the bigger family trip/gear car, and I feel like a pickup is still very useful/needed.
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

Congrats!

In this market, this is probably as good as it gets right now without some kind of insider deal. It is essentially profit padding the deal, since the stuff they force you to take are usually some of the highest margin add ons they offer. But since you get something for the money, it is an easier pill to swallow.

Back in the day when the MDX first came out, we were telling people it came with $2500 worth of genuine accessories (running boards, all season mats, etc). They could choose which accessories…but if they just wanted a straight sticker deal, it was not happening since there were plenty of people behind them willing to pay what we wanted.
