School me: AWD, mid SUV, mid to high end, good mpg

Fuck yeah. My buddy (BARFer) just took my former 2001 540it sport wagon and turned it into an M5. It started with me saying "you should by that M5 on Copart and...". FNALLY it's ready. Drove it and my god...so much win in it. Scratching in 2nd and a bit in 3rd. In a Tan, perfect wagon.

I was going to add a post saying how much we are liking our 2023 Audi Q5. We do like it but got a message on the dash that our vehicle may be affected by a recall or service measure. WTF.

Ran the VIN to check for recalls.

Oct 21,2022
Manufacturer Recall Number13I5
NHTSA Recall Number22V573
Recall StatusRecall Incomplete
Summary
Deviations in the mechanical production process of the connecting rods may have caused an increased particle occurrence in the engine oil circuit, which may lead to extensive wear and play and result in damage to the connecting rod bearings. A connecting rod bearing with continuously rising bearing play leads to excessive engine noise. If the excessive engine noise and engine warning light is ignored and the vehicle continues to be driven, this condition may result in engine failure, potentially causing a loss of motive power while driving, and in rare cases a loss of engine oil, which may pose a risk of a vehicle fire.

Safety Risk
If the excessive engine noise and engine warning light is ignored and the vehicle continues to be driven, this condition may result in engine failure, potentially causing a loss of motive power while driving, and in rare cases a loss of engine oil, which may pose a risk of a vehicle fire.

Remedy
Inspect and, if necessary, replace the engine.

Holeshot, thanks and love ya, man, but you roll in a whole different solar system of comfort with potential time bomb euro vehicles than I could ever consider.

A Porsche?!?! No way in hell for me.

The bimmer longroof is sexy for sure, but hard no on a Benz also.

We had a bunch of other stuff come up to keep us busy and distracted from the car question for a while.
Still need to get back to Lexus dealer and look at the NX line.
When we're visiting the bay In a few weeks we may swing by some dealers down there and look at their hybrids as apparently not many of them get shipped to Reno.

He'd have been better off taking a 6 cylinder sport wagon and doing an LS swap. More reliable and you get rack and pinion steering.

Sport wagon's much to small, besides, I got a great deal on this one honey.

Not for value, though. An M5 conversion is a much higher net + in value. I don't see much interest in an LS1/ Euro wagon swap on the resale end. I wasn't even aware people were doing this.

For reals though. If I had to pick one of the movie vehicles made for laughs (no not something cool like The Bandit’s T/A) to have and drive around a bit? The Family Truckster is up there on the list. Maybe the Deathmobile from Animal House.

THIS is 100x better than the stock version!
Drivetrain, I expect you're right. Appearance, not so much.

It reminds me of custom bikes where people want you to pay extra for their custom paint job, but I'd want to rattle-can over it before I'd park it in my driveway.
