I havent' found BMW parts any more obscenely priced than any other brand. Yeah, most parts cost more than they should. But I didn't find that any different from the Suzukis I owned before I bought my first beemer.
Most of my Husky parts aren't that expensive. Of course, there is always the occasional part that seems priced ridiculously...
But then the Luckys on Bernal Rd. in South San Jose is selling corn at $5.99 an ear...
Sure they are; go price an o-ring or some random nuts and bolts sometime. I just bought some winglets for my GS. it's 2 pieces of plastic and some mounting hardware. BMW charged me $60 for the plastic pieces and $40 for the mounting hardware. While we're here, try pricing the windscreen mounting kit for the GS. It's a few pieces of nuts and bolts and the kit is $60.
Oh and they make this retrofit kit in order to keep the top case from falling off. It's literally a bolt, some washers, and a locknut - $30.
I had to buy a coil pack for my dual spark. BMW charges $144 for one coil.
I'm not even talking about accessories - I'm talking about parts.
I've owned Ducati, Husqvarna, KTM, and MV Agusta - all bikes i've had to purchase parts for, and so far BMW has been the most expensive.
They sold plenty. They couldn't keep them in stock for some time when they were new. It won several Bike of the Year awards as well.
that KTM is heavier than the 1200GS...
The F800 is well placed in the line as the middleweight, more dirt friendly GS bike. The F650 weighs just as much and is less capable. The G650GS is lighter and much less powerful and less capable off road as well.
Bike of the year does not equate sales. If the F800GS was such a stellar seller, then why has it been bested by the 1200GS for every year running? I'm pretty sure the F650GS outsold the F800GS as well.
The KTM 990 ADV is heavier than the R1200GS, but it's a MUCH more capable dirt bike - I don't need to go into the specific's why, but it's pretty common knowledge.
Any thing else I can school you on MNB?
