So whats the deal with Starbucks?

do u guys have "its a grind" in the bay area. we have it up here, and i prefer it to starbucks. but my sister also works at bucks so i stop in and get free drinks. but i stick to the tea there usually.

also, does starbucks even serve REAL coffee drinks, all i ever hear is people ordering foo foo drinks that take about 2 min to explain.

and i agree, ur drink will taste like crap cuz the burnt out barrista doesnt care about it.

Starbucks coffee is just plain bad. The whole environment is so contrived, its like a yuppified idealization of a Euro corner espresso shop, but only comes across as a java-ized Mcdonalds. Its bad...and it makes people fat. Support your local coffee shop and break the frappafuckachino addiction.

Yeah I roll to *$, I do a burnout in the parking lot :burnout...jump the curb...bank off the hummer and right hook the juicy couture lady sporting the bijon frieze under her arm...then I wheelie out of the parking lot :cool

oh and I like their chai lattes :twofinger

IIRC some squid wadded up his nice shiny R1 trying to do a two-up wheelie leaving the Snellbuck's in San Jose a couple of years back. Where are the pics?

Starbucks has already done this in Campbell. The last remaining indy coffee shop there is Orchard Valley Coffee. And they don't even serve Gelato anymore.:(

Ahhhh....but just a couple of weeks ago, a Gelato shop opened downtown...Next to Quizno's, in that new development opposite Sonoma Chicken...

It's not cheap, but its good.

And Orchard Valley is a GREAT coffee shop :teeth

Need to do some paperwork. I'm going to run down to Capbux and get myself a doppio. :cool

i just want to say -tic- that my coffee of choice is a quad mocha. Yum, -tic-.

LeBoulangerie HQ is next -tic- to my office. A 5bux is across -tic- the street (duh), Bean Scene is around the corner... I like the ones -tic- I make at home the best.

I understand *5*buxs uses shade grown (not slash and burn cleared fields) coffee now...

I think -tic- that I'll go pull an espresso now...

I restrain from buying coffee @ *$ if I can, but once in a blue moon going way out of the way to save a bit o change seems irrational.

We have "It's a Grind" here at my work in Fremont. Coffee tastes like crap :(
So I drive to the Bux in Fremont Commons. My Barista already knows what I like and starts making it when she see's me come through the door. :teeth

Peet's and mom & pop coffee shops make espresso (not expresso) on old fashioned machines with portafilters which takes more time but tastes a lot better.

It only tastes better (and doesn't take appreciably more time) if the barista knows what he/she is doing. Most don't. I worked in the time of the Big Ol' Machines. BTW, if people don't do a decent job cleaning those at shutdown (which is a timesucker), they get pretty gnarly.

They undercut their prices

When has Starbuck's ever charged less for a latte than the place across the street? Prices are standardized, and most people gripe that they're too high. ;)

I like Starbucks' coffee and I hate Peets, so FYM/ASMD.

And my sister-in-law works at Starbucks and gets health benefits for her, my brother and my nephew even though she only works part-time. Now that's evil corporation right there.
