Jeebus.... why you wanna drag me back into this train wreck??? And if that's not bad enough, you're gonna lob sailor moon grenades??? My mama warned me about bad men like you.... :x

Also, OP, bringing up one guy (Evel Knievel) who stopped binning bikes back in the late 70's really isn't relevant to the discussion. And there aren't exactly a lot of daredevil riders any more. If one grain of sand at Pismo does something, it has no effect on the beach. So that point is totally invalid.

Even when it looks like I'm not wearing any gear I actually am , built motorcycle denim jeans with knee/ shin guards underneath , touring motorcycle jacket with all the pads and street bike boots underneath ! Everything protected except my ass , which I could probualy loose a little of anyways

Nah Ah. Didn't you see that documentary with Andy Samberg, Hot Rod....

No. I have no idea what you're talking about, and I'm not about to waste a couple of hours watching some silly documentary.
Please explain how a guy from the 70's wadding his shit is affecting my insurance premiums now- almost 40 years later.
Seriously... the premise is ridiculous on the face of it.

Clearly that one (as you stated) was over your head. Hot Rod is a comedy movie about a sucky stunt man on a moped. I said that as a joke, as the movie is definitely not a documentary.:twofinger

To answer your question: My original statement was in regards to how I feel asshats that are ATGATT and crash a lot because of their asshattery are just as responsible for our higher insurance rates as the non-ATGATT rider who gets T-boned at no fault of his own. There are tons of different combinations of riders. ATGATT riders who ride super safe and defensive, ATGATT riders who ride like fuck faces, non-ATGATT squid asshats, and non-ATGATT super safe defensive riders, just to name a few. My reference about Evil Knievel is to point out the fact that even ATGATTers can eat shit a lot. Stuntmen or not, they too are responsible for rising insurance costs. It sits wrong with me that some folks are so quick so point the finger of insurance costs at anyone who isn't ATGATT.

On a side note Gixxxergirl1000, I am wholly offended that you have not seen Hot Rod. Watch it. You won't regret it. :thumbup

Gear, or lack there of, does not make the rider. The soft tissue between the handlebars and seat is the one making decisions on how to ride. Gear only dictates how much skin you will grind off when you hit the road, nothing more nothing less.

The ONLY gear that might save you from death is a Helmet (which we all have to wear), Neck Brace (which is usually only worn on track), and a good Back Protector (again, which is usually worn on the track). The rest is strictly for use in keeping as much skin as you can on your body which I happen to be a big fan of. Edit: Good boots will not keep you from breaking your leg but they will put the weak point on your lower leg vice your ankle. I would much rather have a broken leg any day than a broken ankle/foot. Legs heal quick.

One thing people need to keep in mind when it comes to insurance is this. Insurance pays for the damage to the bike. Very few insurance companies have medical coverage for the rider. So anyone the wrecks their bike does nothing to help our rates. Gear does not make a difference.

Now if we are talking Medical Insurance then that's another matter. In that case, yes those not in gear contribute more than those with gear. The reason is simple. With gear in a minor crash that is survivable you are more likely to walk away and not need medical care. Those with no gear or very little gear are more likely to take a trip to the ER. I think this is common sense and really didn't need to be pointed out but on BARF you just never know :thumbdown:rofl

My god. If people keep touting the insurance shit, I'm seriously about to call into my agent and record the conversation and post it.

You can argue the merits of shorts and van's till your blue in the face but when the shit hits the fan you will regret that decision no matter how fast you're going.

I missed this? Who is arguing the merits of shorts and Vans?

:rolleyes

And YOU! :teeth Quit egging it on. Your statement of "I think a troll just got owned" is the 'trollingest' most 'baiting' statement anyone here has made. :twofinger

I'm not trying to start drama with you, but seriously though, it is.

You've typed a lot of words since MrIncredible's post, but none of them address the blatant contradictions in your own posts over a short time span. They paint a picture of a guy who takes contrary positions for the fun of it.

But if you think I'm baiting you, feel free to report the post.

Did anyone literally argue the merits of Shorts and Vans......no. But you might as well be if you're saying it's hot, it's a short trip, I can wear what I want it's my skin etc. My point was that you can do what you want....it is your skin after all.

Right. Nobody was arguing that. And, right again people can wear what they want. No need to spin it up in any way. And, If I decide to ride from my house on Happy Valley Rd. to downtown Lafayette to get coffee in jeans, as I don't think leathers are necessary, then NO THAT GOES NOT MEAN I AM ARGUING THE "MERITS" OF RIDING IN SHORTS OR VANS. No need for straw men up in here.

Nobody in here is claiming riding naked is safer then riding with leathers. Not a single one.

Some folks are arguing that everyone is somebody else's idiot. Like, some people think you are an idiot for riding motorcycles no matter what you wear. In fact, I would say, with no statistics (but 35 years of riding experience) that the VASY MAJORITY of the public at large think we are all idiots for riding. Period. To these people, this argument would sound to them like this:
"I am slightly less of an idiot for wearing leathers, and the rest of you jeans wearing lunatics are the bigger idiots, therefore you are ruining it for the rest of us lesser idiots".

It's ridiculous really, in my opinion. :laughing
