The Official 2012 NFL Thread

Yeah, I'm really curious to see if Peyton makes it through the entire season. Tough bastard though he may be, the dude is taking a risk if you ask me.

Not as much as Elway is.

Sign Tebow in the first place, ack shocked that Tebow still plays like Tebow did in college when you make him start nearly immediately, then discard him for Peyton...with Peyton getting $18M guaranteed this year, REGARDLESS of whether or not he finishes the season?

That's either incredibly ballsy or incredibly stupid.

I'm not talking about just Rings, any ol' QB in the right place at the right time can pick up some Superbowl Rings (Ask Jeff Hoestettler), I'm talking about fucking MULTIPLE SUPERBOWL MVP AWARDS in a 5 year span. Only 3 other guys (Starr, Bradshaw, Montana) have ever done that and they're all Hall of Famers. Joe Montana was the only other one who wasn't riding a hot streak and winning them back-to-back. I'm talking about 2 Pro Bowl Selections, 3 Playoff Runs, breaking the all time record for 4th Quarter Touchdowns in a season, tied the NFL record for Most Game Winning Drives in a season, Record Holder for Most Road playoff Wins by a QB, Record Holder for Active Starting Streak by an NFL QB and on and on in the last 5 years and the guy can't even get a Top 5 from people who are picking guys (Brady and Peyton) that took off a YEAR for injury during that period? Seriously? I don't think you all are realistically looking at just the last 5 years when you talk this shit.

It blows my mind, because I hate these, "I love me some me," motherfuckers playing to the press, fucking up their life with personal problems and no discipline or making noise to get attention. Let the fucking douchebags on the Jets side of the stadium have their, "Broadway Joe Namath," types, their Big Ben Sexual Assault, Phillip Rivers temper tantrums and Tom Brady Paternity suits. I'll take Eli Manning who just shuts the fuck up, does his job, leads the hell out of his team with some epic highlight reel plays and continues to set records and win Championships while spending his off time quietly working with charity and hanging out with his wife, just the way Archie raised him to.

I'm on the same page as you when it comes to reasons to dislike Brady and Rapelisberger. I'll also agree that Eli is pretty much a lunch pale QB, which is the preferred attitude for me. I like him, but I just can't put him in the top 5. His performance over the span of an entire season over the past few seasons just doesnt warrant it. He had a great season in 2011, no one can deny that, or should. But again, not one of the best 5 to play in the past few years. I'm basing that purely on the stats commonly used to judge a QB in the NFL. If you want to bring other intangibles into the argument, that's fine, but they dont add up to anything in my assessment of a QB. We can agree to disagree on how you judge a QB.

I :love you guys

Only place in the world that a guy's team wins the SuperBowl and he is put on the defensive.

:laughing

FUCKING SERIOUSLY! :laughing

LOL, we always do! :laughing

Well, the only way to shut the Jesusbows up was to go HUGE! In all fairness, Elway gave Tebow the stink-eye the ENTIRE time Tebow was around until he started winning games in a bizarre and consistent fashion.

Everything you're talking about, Peyton Manning had in spades up until he injured his neck.

By the numbers:
Years: Peyton - 13, Ely - 8
td/yr: Peyton - 33, Ely - 22.6
Yards/yr: Peyton - 4632, Ely - 3331

And, right from the first day, nobody every questioned whether Peyton was the boss.

Sorry dude, Peyton > Ely

Oh, I'm not even questioning he's had a greater career so far. I just get disgruntled that Eli can't even get into a, "One of the Best guys," conversation. It will be another few years before Eli eclipses Peyton...

;)

Peyton is better than Eli definitely. Shit, even Philip rivers is better than Eli!

The parade and Eli's trip to Disneyworld are over, so yeah...

Best thing about Peyton coming to Denver is the Raiders get 2 chances to cripple him! Bring back Tatum!

agreed. Jags or Fins need to trade for him ASAP.

no Tebow in SF please. what a bunch of nonsense.

You could very well be correct. Time will tell.

I think that the NFL probably has the most exceptional quarterbacks currently playing than it has ever had active at once.

Smith isn't one of them.

:laughing Neither is Tebow!!

I wouldn't go that far.

Keep in mind, the recent rule changes, definitely favor the passing game... there are quite a lot of retired QBs out there that never had the opportunity to rack up the sorts of stats the current bunch does.

Oh, he's not even in the top 50%.

All that he has going for him is an unreasonable faith in his abilities that up to this point have been buttressed by uncommon luck. Some time in the near future, the other shoe is going to fall and he'll get eaten alive enough times that it'll finally sink in that he was just excelling on borrowed time.

Well, I have to say his ability to capitalize on clutch time play is amazing. I doubt he'll ever be able to develop that into real star talent though.

Inevitable. The thing that baffles me is now MoFo's are talking about the Niners getting Tebow. What fucking stupidity would that be With Smith on the books and Kaepernick in the wings?
that was an adam schefter (espn) rumor that lasted about 2 hours this morning until he retracted it.

i heard jacksonville doesn't want him either: it's just the usual espn/nfl network jack offs sitting around making shit up because they don't really know what's going on type of bullshit.

what people are kind of overlooking is that tebow won 3 or 4 games for the broncos that they should have lost. without tebow (and acts of god), the broncos are 4-12, 3-13. it's not like they are a legit 8-8 team that's going to improve on that with manning. so all the talk about how they won their division and won a playoff game is irrelevant, they did most of that with, to some degree because of, tebow, they sure as hell wouldn't have done that with orton or brady quinn. they're more like a 4-12 team that added manning. which makes them a little better than the colts i suppose.

That Defense really tightened up for Denver in the second half of the season as well. They should still have a better than average D in 2012. But yeah, they won the Division at 8-8, much to some Tebow heroics.
