The Official 2012 NFL Thread

It's a team sport, and no Eli hasnt been one of the top 5 QB's in the past few years. You could make an argument to include Rapelisberger, but not for Eli. The Stats just arent there. Anyone who isnt too emotionally invested in the guy can see that plainly. That being said, Eli had a great year last year.

It's not about emotional investment it's about understanding that being a QB is about a LOT more than Statistics. QB ratings are cute, and fun for Fanatsy Football weenies, but they don't tell the whole story. Being a leader is the most important part of being a QB, not completions %, Touchdowns Passing or Rushing. That's why guys like McNabb, Rivers and Vick will retire with a naked hand and Eli will retire with 3-4 Superbowl rings on his fingers. You need to be the guy that makes the RB sacrifice his body into the breech that one last time. You need to be the guy that makes his linemen throw that one last forearm into the throat of the D-Monsters when they're tired, the game is late and their legs have been getting stomped on all day and they do it not because you bark or because you're getting paid, but because you BELIEVE in your Captain and will fight to the last man not to let him down. The great Ken Stabler of Raiders fame in the 70's retired with a QB rating of like 76. How many Superbowl MVP's does a guy need to win in 5 years to be considered one of the best of that period? I mean shit, Bart Starr, Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw didn't ever get more than 2 in 5 years. :laughing

Fanatsy Football weenies

bwahahahahahahahaha

Uh, dude.. 1/2 the season your QB looked like a Deer caught in the headlights. I swear the guy walks around like he has Down Syndrome.

I think Coughlin has more to do with the success of that team than Eli does.

Dude, the year before was tough, but you can't be talking about last year. Eli blew the entire NFL the fuck up last year.

Except for the Redskins defense...

Hey, every motherfucker is going to have an off game now and again. Shit, in the last 10 years, there are 3 QB's that have won 2 Superbowls, two of 'em ain't on peoples list here and one of 'em BEAT the guy who DID make it on peoples list, TWICE...

Lots of good Quarterbacks have won Superbowls. Rings are nearly irrelevant when talking about who the best Quarterbacks have been at the position at any given time. It's not about leadership skills or rings. It's about who has passed for the most TD's, thrown the most yards, has the highest completion percentage, has the most yards per pass, and the most consistently high QBR. If "winning" Championships were important in judging the quality of a QB's performance, then Tebow would have been a number one pick coming out of the Draft. Clearly Eli Manning has NOT been one of the top 5 QB's over the past 3 to 5 seasons based on any of that criteria. While you may not like it, the REST OF THE WORLD judges QB's performance on those things alone.

Rex Grossman, Sam Bradford, Brady, Rogers, and Mark Sanchez all tend to disagree. When playing Eli, they all had better games last year.

Your qb is cute and all, but top 5 he ain't.

That's the funny thing is what you're saying isn't true. I just went and read a piece about, "Top QB's in the League," from June of 2011 where all these sportscasdters listed their top 7 Guys. Almost EVERYONE put Raperburger in their top 5, and justified it with, "Hey, he's got 2 Rings, you can't argue with Championships." Eli just gets no respect because he's a 0 Flash Personality. I still hear guys saying he's NOT TOUGH even though he hold sthe current active Iron Man record in the NFL. :facepalm When he wins his 3rd one in the 2014 Superbowl and becomes the first QB to win a Home Superbowl, I wonder if he'll get recognized then. Probably not. :laughing

I mentioned Rapelisberger as worthy of being included in the top 5 already. Rings notwithstanding, his stats alone enter him in the discussion. Eli's don't.

Ben also deserves some credit for being his O-line.

I do think Eli doesn't get enough credit, though.

As soon as the Raiders knock Peyton's ass into retirement, he'll be the good Manning.

There's some truth to that sure. Eli had always lived under his brother's shadow. I don't think that is going to happen much anymore. I think Eli is a great QB, there's just nothing there to support the argument that he's been one of the top 5 in the past few years.

It's likely that he never even received a call from another team. I loved to hate the guy. Great WR. The two best WR's in the AFC North(and two of the best in the entire NFL) in the first decade of the 2000's, Ward and Chad Johnson, both look to be out of football this coming season. Great careers that just fizzled at the end. Sad. At least Ward played in a few Super Bowls.

Yeah, gotta love it when you've got 35 year old WRs:

Randy Moss and Hines Ward.

And Hines has to retire. Love or hate the guy, he was a hell of a blocking receiver. I'll miss him.

I'm not talking about just Rings, any ol' QB in the right place at the right time can pick up some Superbowl Rings (Ask Jeff Hoestettler), I'm talking about fucking MULTIPLE SUPERBOWL MVP AWARDS in a 5 year span. Only 3 other guys (Starr, Bradshaw, Montana) have ever done that and they're all Hall of Famers. Joe Montana was the only other one who wasn't riding a hot streak and winning them back-to-back. I'm talking about 2 Pro Bowl Selections, 3 Playoff Runs, breaking the all time record for 4th Quarter Touchdowns in a season, tied the NFL record for Most Game Winning Drives in a season, Record Holder for Most Road playoff Wins by a QB, Record Holder for Active Starting Streak by an NFL QB and on and on in the last 5 years and the guy can't even get a Top 5 from people who are picking guys (Brady and Peyton) that took off a YEAR for injury during that period? Seriously? I don't think you all are realistically looking at just the last 5 years when you talk this shit.

It blows my mind, because I hate these, "I love me some me," motherfuckers playing to the press, fucking up their life with personal problems and no discipline or making noise to get attention. Let the fucking douchebags on the Jets side of the stadium have their, "Broadway Joe Namath," types, their Big Ben Sexual Assault, Phillip Rivers temper tantrums and Tom Brady Paternity suits. I'll take Eli Manning who just shuts the fuck up, does his job, leads the hell out of his team with some epic highlight reel plays and continues to set records and win Championships while spending his off time quietly working with charity and hanging out with his wife, just the way Archie raised him to.

Yeah, I'm really curious to see if Peyton makes it through the entire season. Tough bastard though he may be, the dude is taking a risk if you ask me.

I :love you guys

Only place in the world that a guy's team wins the SuperBowl and he is put on the defensive.

:laughing
