talking head on ESPN had an interesting idea to make Thursday Night Football more palatable (I detest TNF)

basically make all 4 teams in a division take the same bye week and then go into a double header of TNF rivalry games.

from a player health and safety stand point they get a long break before TNF and an extra 3 days of recovery after. from a competition stand point you get these games where the teams know each other and play harder than they might against another TNF opponent.

I hate TNF but if it's here to stay that would at least make it a bit more interesting

he even expanded the idea to delete 2-3 weeks from pre-season and give each team a second bye-week to accommodate a second round of TNF rivalry games

Seems like if you were going to do the extra Thursday rivalry, you should do 3, so each division match up in the Divisions on deck that year could do a game

instead of all 4 teams take the same bye week, have it a divisional matchup but spread it out over 2 different TNFs. 8 divisions = 16 weeks. not too bad, except it forces teams to take their bye week either within the first 3 weeks or at the end.

not sure there's a best-case scenario for TNF.

Can anyone even watch a TNF game with the god awful "color rush-to sell more crappy swag-uniforms?" I swear those things are like the visual equivalent of having to listen to Cris Collinsworth.

I'd take the uniforms over Collinsworth any day. They really don't bother me that much, it's just kinda more stupidity to go with glitzy new stadii....The idea that it creates more merchandising is curious. Wonder if it really does?

See I'm the other way around. I can mute Collinsworth. Those unies:

Ha. I never do mind the other guy, tho. But yer right.

"Let me tell ya about XXXXXX. He's maybe the best unrecognized right tackle int he National Football League...bla-bla-bla..."

I need that cartoon but of my ears...

I don't have a good answer I just know I think TNF is pretty fucking awful quality and needs to change or, preferably, go away

wtf

keep TNF

i get to watch football 3x nights of the week

idgaf about ratings

You know, my take on it is that he probably is so humble that its okay. Unlike Earl Campbell, at least they softened the turf to pound out his days...I always think about the House of Pain days as just a miserable masochistic career path that all of those guys endured. Gore will retire with enough money to enrich his family for generations and hopefully enough medical tech to keep him comfortable. But I agree, watching his brilliant power squandered in the middling years of Niner ineptitude was just painful. The entire offense seemed to consist of hand it off to Gore and run up the middle. Punctuated by unsuccessful passing game.

gore needed to retire in red/gold as a 49er

i think he has every rb record for the 9er franchise right meow

sucks, it was gg once they let their starting back leave - carlos hyde so hit and miss with injuries, gore was put the game on his shoulder and let him pound it.

i remember the year when Madden game finally upgrade Gore to a big hitter (ram stick that can "truck" through fools)

BAALKE.

Still not as sad as Montana retiring a Chief though. I'm not even a Niner and that had me.

And he would have gotten at least one more title. He got fuckered on that one so I don't blame him for turning his back on the organization. Then EddyD getting ramrodded out of the NFL, the spend now pay later Policy, and finally giving the team to a kid who hadn't had to face a single adversity in his life.

It's been a painful 20+ years to be a 9er fan.

Hey guys, I got a kick out of this. Weather or not you like Seth Meyers I think this clip encapsulates the best of what being a football, or sports in general, fan is about. I think the best banter of BARF NFL threads mirrors these sentiments.

idgaf about rating, either. I gaf about decent games. TNF games are usually abortions and are statistically more likely to cause significant injury to players.

if you like football you want healthy players. TNF is your enemy unless they make it safer and it's bullshit unless they make the games more competitive

The funny thing about all the TNF hate is that the Rams-Niners game was actually one of the more interesting.

People just like to hate on TNF....it's just one step too far of wall-to-wall NFL.

I could take it or leave it, but I don't like the implications of hurting the players more because of short interval between games.

The intro to TNF was pretty cool. The whole Pack/Bears rivalry. The game hasn't lived up to it so far. Two turnover? Bears are lucky they aren't down 21.

Is Fox going to make it to the end of the season?
