I've always loved the Jeep Grand Cherokee
I've owned 2 myself.
Wife is interested in getting 1. We went and test drove the Hemi V8 Overland Summit at the Jeep dealer on Stevens Creek. I've heard the V6s weren't up to snuff in the last few years.
We REALLY liked it but completely hated the dealer experience so we bailed. Stop trying to upsell me and sell me what I want. Give me numbers and stop trying to play around with APRs and trade-in value BS to "get me into a better vehicle"
Now it gives me time to do some research and ASK YOU
What SUV would you get - 2015 under $40k
what say you?
I asked for 3 numbers when I walked in the dealer. Trade In value on her car, msrp on the V8 limited and the V8 Hemi. That's all the info I need to make my decision... I don't want you running my credit to see what loan I can get (I don't need it). I don't want you trying to stretch the loan out to 72 months to up me into the next vehicle.
As others said Jeeps have never had a good reputation. Brand new they always look and feel nice, until stuff starts falling apart, breaking down, chassis starts to squeak, electrical fails. The new cherokees are just pretending to be all fancy thinking it could compete with BMW X5's, Range Rover Sports, Mercedes ML's and the like for much less $$.
Personally I'd overlook the 'plastic' feel of the Japanese SUV's like the Pilot and the 4Runner. Fully loaded they are quite nice interiors also, but will likely be more than $40k. I had a '04 4Runner for 7 yrs and I drove the piss out of it. I'd definitely get another one in the future.
If you want something more refined then consider the Honda Pilot. I don't like how the current ones look but they sure are a smooth quiet ride.
As for walking into a dealership, well you're doing it wrong. Only suckers walk into a dealership to 'shop and buy'. Smart buyers don't haggle. They know what they are willing to pay, email dealers in the area with either their OTF offer, or ask for their best OTD offer. Always deal in OTD price.
Why trade in her current car when you should sell it privately for more cash? Is it a tough to sell car? If so then know what you can realistically expect for it, the used car market is hot right now and dealers are willing to pay top dollar for trade-ins, but of course they will try low balling you. The internet sales guys for dealerships operate more on volume than per sale commission.
If you walk in, test drive, ask for prices, of course you're gonna get the full on sales tactics. They think they can close you, and if they don't its not their fault, its that they think you're a bitch that came in to pull their leg going for a joyride and they hate you for that. They'll be super nice to you throughout the process up until they see you're really not agreeing to their terms or buying then they won't even so much as shake your hand or look you in the eye as you leave. That's what happened right? Haha, I know this shit all too well.
