ThunderHill 600 Time?

Good point. Thus the slogan still fits: "in the AFM, even the slow people are fast." :laughing

So for your regular track guy that does not race, under 2 is pretty good?

I would say for your regular Joe hanging out in A group and doing under 2:00 is pretty dang fast, especially on a 600. I would be lapped in 3 laps at that pace hahhaha

A consistant 2:00 lap time would put you in the mid-pack (~20th to 25th place) in 600 production superbike in the AFM.

So if you are lapping Thunderhill on a 600 supersport in 2 minutes or less, Get Thee to the NRS and start racing.

waht 600 are we talking about BTW? in the last few years the 600's have gotten increadably fast.

And I am refering to frame and suspension mostly, along with the motor of course.

So if I sell my 04 for an 08 it will be easy to go sub-2:00?

yup

seriously, you wont see DRASTIC immediate time decrease, but it is easier to go faster on a new model bike.

new bikers do more things for you, rather than having to do things for the bike. i.e. slipper clutch, you can get going faster quicker b/c of more horse power in the entire power band. also, lower clipon's with more rake, easier turn in, etc. list goes on and on

Each new year easily shaves off 10 seconds a lap. I'm waiting to get the 2020 GSXR where you can actually have negative laptimes.

I think the biggest thing you will find is more power across the board and a more refined smooth and stable suspension, not necessarily a R6 thing (well everything accept the power surge) but just a newer bike to an older one. None of these will guarantee you a faster laptime but you will be able to go eventually faster and on a more composed bike which equals to a higher comfort zone. Plus bikes these days are so refined you don't need much aftermarket stuff to make it this way.

But I think what hitman is saying is that if you look at the fast guys in The AFM, laptimes for similar places have decreased over the years due to better bikes. A few years ago you're bike was the hot ticket. Now look at the AFM and for the most part you see 07+ R6's everywhere. They're the new bike to have considering how well they work Not to mention the new Hondas....(and suzukis :twofinger). I think the top riders get faster every year with the latest greatest bikes. That trickles down among the lower runners, as everyone wants to be competitive.

I was being sarcastic.

The bottom line is that if you don't have the ability to ride sub 2:00 at T-Hill, you won't do it on *any* bike.

Also tracktime is a far better investment for most riders than a bike. The 2-3 seconds that I might, probably wouldn't, get out of the horsepower, decreased weight and better chassis would be nothing compared to the time that I'd gain by doing a full season of trackdays at a lower cost than a new bike. It's not until you get well into the 50's (at T-Hill) that the bike starts to make enough of a difference to justify spending money on it.

Also check out Riad Nader in last year's 600 standings. He was rocking the 03 Yamaha all year AFAIK. :teeth

Anyhow to get back to the OP's question, yes is the answer. Congratulations if you're the rider in question.

i totally agree kyle

and to stem away a bit, im waiting to hit the thunderhill after its repaved b/c im sure new fresh sweet smooth pavement will lower my times :)

That may be a fact! I can't wait to feel how smooth they'll make 14..
