Holy shit, 5 days in a row :wow :wow :wow

2 days, and then 3 days. Yeah, it was pretty awesome. Unfortunantly, a month later I'm in the damn poor house, and will be for the next month. On the bright side, miller motorsports in august. :thumbup :laughing When does it stop...:ride :rofl I'm not fast, I just have a lot of track time. :laughing

That's one of the many reasons I like rockin' the 250! That and it's a REAL exotic. I will probably never race so lap times are pretty abstract for me. I really enjoy chasing down guys on 600s and 1000s. I take great pleasure going around the outside of guys in turns 2 and 3 esp.

Yep, there is a certain satisfaction with comes from passing someone on a faster bike. :)

And Zn3's point of going slow through slow areas should be reiterated, especially on turns 11 and 14/15. So many people try to take 11 fast and end up totally pooching their drive down the back straight. And if you take 14 in a smooth and controlled manner you can roll on the thottle well before the apex of 15 and get a great drive down the front straight. So much time can be gained just by making sure you're fully opening the throttle down the straights. And you can safely do it much more safely than trying to go fast through slow turns. ;)

Very, very true, but to play devils advocate; have you ever followed a relatively fast guy through those turns?? They take still take them pretty damn fast :cool

Really? How many of the fast AFMer's have NEVER crashed? How many AMA racers have NEVER crashed? I would bet, NONE.

The best riders in the world crash multiple times every year because they are pushing their limits to go faster. If you, me or anyone out there does the same YOU WILL CRASH, period.

Way to read what I wrote, dude.

The best riders in the world crash because they're not only pushing their limits, they're pushing the limit. They also, for the most part, are professionals who are paid to do this. They're not some trackday goer who has to be to work on Monday morning. In this sense they can afford to crash.

Now if you don't see a difference between that and pushing the 2:00 mark at Thunderhill then I don't know if trackdays are something that you should be doing. The idea that crashing at a trackday, or even off the pace during a race, is acceptable is dangerous to yourself but more importantly it's dangerous to those riding around you..

As a mater of fact I have and also through 5 the supposedly throw away turn. Guess what...a couple of VERY fast guys have shown me inside passes on those turns. I have seen lots of fast guys taking 14 really fast and not screwing up their drive to 15 and the front straight either. The point is that while 2:00 or so feels fast there is a whole other level that us mere mortals aren't going to get to play on.

YOu mean like this? :laughing

Only works for me on SLOW people haha :teeth

(Brownie points for whoever recognizes rider in the background hehe)

Ha, well slow is relative. :laughing I used to pass a bunch of people going into 11 so technically I was going faster than they were but I was able to end up on the inside of the turn and get the straight shot through the esses and onto the straight. I guess it's more one of line than speed. But A LOT of people I've seen go through that turn push it way out wide and totally kill their drive down the back straight.

ETA- I always took 5 slow just cause I wasn't a good enough rider to take it fast. And yeah, I've been passed in that turn quite a few times. :teeth

Close...but nice set up. You're not going to be taking the apex away from that guy. He's already through the turn. You'll get him on the outside down the hill. I thought it was Var at first but but I don't think so now. Careful, that's exactly how I put myself off the track right there. The passer had no idea I was there and I didn't get around him fast enough and he kept drifting outside and I went off.

I was following Cory Call:hail through the front half of the track and he put a guy between us right before 5. It works great for people who stop accelerating at the bottom of the hill. I tried it a few laps later and it worked pretty well. A few days later, Zoran did the same thing to me totally waking me up and shaking me out of my comfort zone.

Kyong? :laughing

For normal trackdays, those are throw away corners for me. I'm not good enough to carry real speed through there, and it's not worth it when it reflects in the lap timer. Those are the last places to work on time, when I'm 2-3 seconds off of AFM front runners. In the meantime, safer and easier time can be made up in the fast places. For a 600, I'm pretty sure that would mean well sub 2 min times, for a SV that means I'd be pulling 2:02-3 range. Just not enough gain. Sure, the really fast guys can stuff people up there, but really fast guys shouldn't be compared to us mere mortals in terms like that. You can pass up the hill there, especially on an SV where most people are backing off to hit a safe braking zone, but passing into 5 (coming in side by side at turn in) isn't something I would want to try outside of a race. In a race? Heh.

Haha, yeah I think I know what you mean, you have to carry more speed and dive into the apex before they barely get their bike turned as you charge up the hill (I think thats whachya mean?) I always get a good drive off of 4 so I eventually just started passing slowpokes taking it easy up the hill, ( I bet they saw my crash coming...hehe)

That was just a funny shot because I was pulling that pass on Kyong all day and Dito barely got a pic of one of em :laughing

Ever since I crashed in 5 losing the front.........I don't try such ballsy moves :( :teeth

EDIT: Zen got it first try :laughing

Passing on the outside of 5 is where its at :teeth. Done right, you can steal the line to 5a. Only works in certain situations though and you must be very very certain you'll be in front before you flick over to the right. I've done it twice in races so far. It's also a pass fairly easy to abort if you won't make it...kills the drive down the hill on an abort but usually only for one turn.

That's about it.

On the outside of 5? On the way up the hill? I thought after the apex at the top of the hill the downhill side would be 5A? I've seen lots of passes outside there. do go on...

I would guess that he's talking about a low, blocking line over the top of the hill and getting them to hold up when you cut in front, and then flip it back over to the right and block their line down the hill.

He stuffed me there. I'm not sure if that was the particular pass but he absolutely stuffed me and stood me up. I was expecting it so it was no big deal but he was living dangerously through t5 that day. He ended up crashing out that day on t5 trailbraking. :)
