VW "Clean" Diesel not really clean

Not just them. This report claims most are faking it with VW, Audi, BMW and Opal being tagged as the worst...

Damn! I guess comparing emissions cheating to the LIBOR scandal is a reasonable comparison. It is more widespread than one would expect.

I haven't yet read a single article in which the author got the NOx nomenclature correct. I wish an Audi A8 emitted 1.6 g/km of nitrous oxide. I'd follow behind it all day long.

Just so y'all know, NOx is nitrogen dioxide (NO2) plus nitric oxide (NO). NO is the molecule that, in your body, leads to boners. Nitrous oxide is N2O, and it's what the dentist gives you.

Journalists. They need some Mr. Wizard or Bill Nye.

so if i can find a bottle of N2O mixed with NO i'll get laughing boners?

As PI attorney I can tell you that taking on a class action is a huge financial risk and can cost millions to pursue. In class action you have to track down and notify the member of the class of the suit and tell them what their options are in the case. Think about tracking down 500,000 people and then mailing each of them one notice, which there are many. Each time you mail them something you just spent $250,000. If the class is really large with millions of people image what the cost of the postage alone is, not including all the expert and court fees. The costs to pursue are huge.

I do agree that I do not like class actions, but for the most part members do little or nothing and the law firm spends millions of dollars to pursue the claim with the risk of getting nothing and members receive a check, sometimes for pennies sometimes for thousands. But nevertheless all the risk is born by the law firm, and if you don't want to be part of the class action you can always opt out and hire your own attorney and purse the matter separately.

I am talking about the guy who originally approached the law firm with his complaint, his evidence or story, and his idea for the class action. Without him, you wouldn't have anything. He's called the "class representative" or something, right? I think he deserves more than a petty $20K or whatever, which is what I've seen from a few proposed settlements.

i think this is a business plan. if there are bars that serve oxygen how much harder can it be to serve Laughing Boner Gas?

do ladies get Lady Boners from NO?

Yeah, kinda. NO increases bloodflow by dilating blood vessels. Viagra releases NO in the crotches of both men and women.

Just read that possible lemon laws can come into play when the changes to the diesel cars are rolled out. Typically though lemon law debates for refunds are a dealer thing, article said VW may make it easier to on owner to buy back the cars. Be interesting.

I wouldn't mind them buying back my car then get a hell of a deal on a new diesel. They're gonna slash the prices on those babies :laughing

Also wouldnt mind a used Lexus 200h. I need a wagon or suv with good gas mileage cuz of my dogs.

the existing new deisels won't be legal to sell dubs, till they go through CARB certification again. it wouldn't surprise me if there are no CA legal diesels for several years again as we saw when diesel emissions standards were tightened up the last time 'round.

i imagine the fine paperpushers at CARB are furiously writing a new standard for emissions testing for ALL cars to catch this sort of thing. fuck you VW and friends.

No no I get that, I meant a deal on their new emission legal diesel. Have to imagine the incentives that will have to get buyers in.

Yeah, that's the big issue I see here... everyone will suffer because of this.

Truth! My whole point in getting my TDI was to make smog checks a breeze. I guess really any car that's 10 year or newer shouldnt have trouble passing smog.

Maybe I'll look into a hybrid next or a diesel truck :drool

Fair is fair. It would inconvenience all the people who modify their new cars with non-CARB equipment. And I'd recommend it be age and gender based. All men under age 40. :laughing When you turn 40, have at it if you've still got the urge (but it's doubtful because you're busy paying for your kids tuition, etc.) :laughing

i woulnd't be surprised if the "no smog test for first 5 years" or is it 6? goes away.

rolling road hour long dyno test? we shall see.

It's a possibility. Look, I love old cars and bikes and all that stuff, but clean air is nice as well (I won't get too much further into that cuz the EPA, CARB, etc. are not even handed and would love to rid the whole country of all industry and automobiles... srsly, I heard this straight from one of their mouth's). And if diesel cars are going to be more common in the US, if companies want to meet the ever more restrictive CAFE standards, they would be good to have. But... I don't want air like Shanghi, either.

I also don't want to fork out the time and money more often than I already do in order to smog my ish. It's a pain in the arse and a fabricated industry.

Was this an EPA or CARB spokesperson you heard this from? This is the official stance of the organizations?

Or was this just a person who works in one of those organizations expressing their emotional views on the issue of industry and autos?
