VW "Clean" Diesel not really clean

BMW has gone so far down hill since MBZ bought them. :p

Uh............ :wtf

This thread is full of win. Unethical people saying it's cool to strip parts, people thinking British cars are good buys at any prices (think constant electrical failures), and people thinking BMW and MBZ are the same company and that VW and Audi aren't :wtf :laughing

I've already had two 4Runners, a 1986 and a 2007. Loved them both but want to try something a little different.

Plus an '08 RR is far removed from the days of the blown head gaskets and dropped sleeves of the 4.6L. I hear 2007-2009 is the sweet spot for a reliable L322.

The power train can be reliable, but it's everything else that breaks:(

I know you are handy, but price of parts and time/patience can get old real quick.

I'm sure it can. It has to be a huge downer to come out of the country club and see your $100k SUV listing like the Costa Concordia because the air shocks blew out. :laughing

They don't blow out so much as they leak down and the compressors then start to fail. It's symptomatic on all the air suspension vehicles. Air suspension is a gimmick anyway...

I'm still temped, and there are spring conversion kits available (just don't mention them on a RR forum :laughing) Also swapping bags and compressors doesn't seem too hard but as Stan says, parts costs add up.

I love my F150, but at 284k you always wonder how much is left in the drive train. Could go another 200k or it could blow up on my drive home tonight, no way to know.

I want to roll up to the sierras in style. Also would be good for a roadtrip to the homeland. Haters up there don't get to see many Range Rovers, even 10 year old ones. :cool

Speaking of which (VWs) I wouldn't mind a compact SUV -- a Tiguan. Anyone know which models/trims / warranties to get or not to get?

Are leases a good deal on those?

Fred, it happens. The heated seats just draw you into their cocoon.

Tiguan seems to have heated seats... just like my old wagon had.

I could park my CR-V next to a Forester and they're basically the same size/layout. You might call it compact SUV, to me, it's just a tall wagon.

Nowadays Forresters are bigger than a Tiguan. I thought another Subaru thread said Subarus have crappy interiors

Actually I was pretty impressed with how far they've come. My WRX Limited had an awesome HK audio system and whatnot. But the base models are still pretty craptastic. They're like 4runners and tacomas - most buy them for the performance not the comfort.

I'm unsure what I would get in place of my TDI Sportwagen. The car has been fantastic and fulfilled every role I could imagine. It got stuck in the mud once and I had to push it out because it has an open diff, and I'm moving to snow country, but the new WRX is reported to have some engine failures that have me fairly frightened about their long term reliability, though I've owned 3 wRX variations over the years and loved them.

Why don't you get a GasI "Sport"wagen? i.e. something like 2016-17 "Golf Sportwagen". It has a 170hp gasoline engine *I think.*
It still has an open diff and you can still push it out.

In fact I'm unsure why am I not getting one but I already posted something else above.

(and yes there is an AWD whatever version but that comes with more beans to be counted)

Peloquin, Wavetrac, and/or Quaife make some version of LSD for the 4th generation VW. They probably make something for yours too.

So I was in the replacement for the Jetta TDI and some asshole with a huge Dodge Ram tries to "race me" on the freeway on ramp in the rain. :p From my rear view mirror, I saw his traction control kick in, :p Dicknob tried to pass me on the outside line. :p

The apr chipped 1.8t puts out like 240hp. the alltrack keeps looking better.
