VW "Clean" Diesel not really clean

I fully can't...

Actually, I plan the shit out of things in the Volt to try and get all-battery to places and back. The temperature tends to change things, but worse: I want heat like Fred!

That's great! If you can get to places all-battery on the Volt, then there's no problem doing it in a Leaf...with the heater on full-blast...in better seats...with more legroom for backseat passengers. But what do I know, maybe y'all like stiff, cardboard-like seats better and have passengers <4feet tall. I don't judge.

Somehow, I made it to work today with the heater in full blast in 35° weather. What do you know, the Leaf didn't explode or anything! I'm going out to lunch, then driving home later...all with no extra charging.

Doing Hayward to Santa Rosa and back today. I can't do something like that in a Leaf or other battery car except a Tesla or Bolt.

Damn, it's a 2014 and asking $15k. Bout $500 over KBB value.

Is 2 hours away and comes with leather and both 110 and 220 charging and all weather mats and warranties. Tough call as I used the shit out of my
Wagon but suppose I can keep the seats flat if I need the room to haul stuff.

I would get it.

I've heard nothing but good things about 'em.

Think of the money you'll save on fuel!

I'd get one but I manage about 80 miles/week of driving these days. I fill up monthly.

That's about what I paid for my 2013 a year ago. It had 45k on it, it has 58k on it now, I am driving the piss out of this thing.

Some dude in Ohio already put over 300k on a 2011.

then you definitely couldn't do it without using gas in the Volt...I think that's what we were talking about, no?

Normal days I don't use gas in the Volt, maybe 0.4 gallons if I don't get a charge at work.

Days like today where I am in the field, I definitely lean on the gas engine, but that is only once a month or so.

I think the volt is a solid buy for any commuter. My only minor gripe, is that it seats only 4 people--but that is not an issue for most people.

Leaf resale is almost comical. All the lease returns from '11,'12 have been selling for as low as $7K. That's almost disposable right there..

The only other all electric car I like is the i3 with the range extender. We did a long term test, and it was pretty livable day to day. Even took a trip to SF with it.

I fill up so rarely, maybe once a month, I never even think to get gas. I made the decision to keep 2 gallons in the bed box just in case (same gas I use when I take the dirtbike out so it's replaced monthly)... this morning was that case :laughing.

2nd gen Volt kind of has a 5th spot, but not really. It they are odd because GM ran the battery up the middle in sort of a T shape from back to front.

Fiat 500e is going for about $5k wholesale for 2013 off lease. Electric car values tank in the used market. Almost as bad or worse than luxury cars.

I know about the 2nd gen, but I assume all our discussion here is for the 'bang for the buck' 1st gen volt.

Didn't know the 500e can be had so cheap! Much better looking than the leaf IMO.

The Volt is not that roomy for a Hatch. Toyota packaged the Plug-In Prius much better than the Volt and those cars are really similar with the exception that the Volt has a larger battery and more powerful electric motors as a gross generalization.

Used EVs are loosing there value so quickly because then new ones are advancing so rapidly. If you like the value of used cars - like I do- then that is a WIN. :thumbup

Oil burner cars are doing a slow evolution now, so there is less value in a new car.

I got my leaf for very, very cheap. And it has the Chademo (440v) charger port. When I am ready to replace the battery, I am looking into using it as a battery backup for my house (this is a real thing now).

for an adult, the volt does not have a viable backseat. the legroom, and seats in general, are torture at best, if one could even fit back there. but if you don't carry passengers and need a gas engine to get your further, then there's a definite advantage. also, the exterior for the volt is far superior in my opinion.

I would have considered the Volt if I had Solar and could add a few panels.

Update: Why does every stupid M'fucker want to race me now in the A4? If I wanted that kind of attention, I would have got a VW Golf R. :p

Just so all you a-holes can laugh your asses off, I decided with the new ride to park a lil further out in the parking lot at work instead of my old spot I parked the VW. I had four species of birds decimate the car's horizontal surfaces. I've never had so much guano on my car in a eight hour period!!! I had to go wash it- even though it's gonna rain. It was the plethora of bird shit in every color, shape and consistency.

My Dad used to tell me, "Birds- they sing to the rich and shit on the poor!"

True story, bro! Only me :p

I just freak out about running out of battery in an all electric.

A 2014 w/ 30K is about $12.5K wholesale.

Anything over 6'1" or so isn't great. It's been fine for people under that size. One advantage of shortness...

LOL. I dunno. I think you have the wrong impression, I barely notice GolfRs on the street, while I think a shiny A4 is.. more shiny :twofinger so people want to race you all the time.
Maybe it's you??? When I had an A4 wagon I don't think it was much of a problem. I drove slow..

^^^ I sat on the back on my friends VOLT Mk2 to go to the restaurant.. IT HURT!!! So yes, it is bad for "tall adults". They're nice people and shorter than me so they didn't think of the back seats. The way back I sat at front, no, wait he gave me to drive it. I enjoyed the "hand (battery) brake" ;)

Check engine came on in my TDI late tonight. Think it's a cold thing cuz it happened in Tahoe once too.

Got home and immediately uploaded my notarized buyback document. Next step is turning it is. I selected receiving a check over an electronic transfer that takes them 3 days. Hopefully the check is there when I get my time scheduled, it asked the verify the address to which to send the buyback check.
