Warriors 16-17 Season

You named yourself after the team. I can't expect anything less than complete bias from you.

If Lebron played for GSW, you'd love him...

Just like you all hated on KD during the semis, but worship the ground he walks on now.

Let's at least call it for what it is.

I never hated on KD. Don't hate Lebron. I enjoy watching basketball so I enjoy watching gifted players. Lebron is one of the top 5 players of all time. I enjoy watching him play ball.

But he still flopped.

I WAS HOPING TO GET A VOLVO WAGON BUT NOW I'M NOT SURE TO BE HONEST

:teeth

THEN YOU'RE MISSING OUT ON A GREAT PLATFORM FOR TRANSPORTING BIKES TO TRACK DAYS AND OHV :afm199

Now FYI - I'm really not trying to be the Karlitos to you all's Nicky Hayden Z00G when it comes to Golden State. I can see we are all passionate people about our teams, and I can respect that. I... somewhat less respect GSW's gentrification/selling out to the uber-rich of SFO, but that's unfortunately life when it comes to "popular" things in the bay area. (I hope you all can actually afford seats to that new stadium.)

I think that's it for Cavs vs. Warriors in regular season? If so, perhaps we'll see you all again in the playoffs.

The other thing was how long LeFlop lay on the hardwood. I was ready to see the stretcher come in. But, inspired by invisible angel rays, he was back in the game immediately! A miracle. Thanks be to deity of choice.

He's quite calculated when he does this to stop the momentum of the game.

I think he pulls of these little stunts now is because his game is on the decline and he's doing all he can to stay on top. I don't blame him, every player as well seasoned as him can't stay on the top much forever.

Agreed.

FWIW, while i'm a warriors fan, I do not dislike James. I remember watching his HS games when ESPN televised them because he was such a gifted player. Like Jordan, i'm sure he's a ferocious competitor, and hard for him to accept that after 13 seasons in the NBA, he's getting past his prime.

Changing topic here.

I didn't think it was worth its own thread, but I'm interested in the name change discussion.

I like Golden State and I don't want it to be changed to San Francisco Warriors. I like that our team name is regional and unique, and even the team color picks up on the golden part. I see the team as regionally beloved and there is no competitor across the bay like in NFL (ironically Not For Long is perfect abbreviation) to so distinguish themselves. It's not hard to pronounce nor awkward graphically.

It's pretty hard for Oakland peeps to accept this move to Chase Center but I think the final insult would be to change to SF in name. Even tho everybody loves to love Rick Welts, his glee at moving to SF as expressed on a tv interview is distasteful to me. I am not an Oakland native, but of other East Bay locale. Further, I don't see the tech-wealthies as symbolic and deserving as basketball fans to be so rewarded. I think the East Bay is the heart of Warriors love frankly. The whole thing is to make it easy for SF people to grab their Uber and make it down to Chase without having to venture out of their beloved new city they took over. Humbug. The idea that the San Francisco cachet rubs off on the Warriors is unnecessary. We know who they are.

At the time the Niners decided to build in Santa Clara, I think there was high vacancy in SF office buildings and such and there was a feeling to go where the money was. Subsequently, the city has rebounded incredibly in wealth, making the move just seem stupid and short-sighted. The money moved North while they moved south! So now, the teams moves from Oakland to SF even while Oakland is getting gentrified. I can't fight the Chase thing, it's over, obviously, so the name is about it.

I saw Warriors games when I was a kid at the Oakland Auditorium. Apparently, they played in SF, Oakland and even San Jose. I like this multi-city legacy and hope the name stays the same.

Fire away.

I'm onboard with this post (Here's to you, Art Modell), including the ironic shift of the team while the gentrification of Oaklamd continues. That said, there are still deeper pockets in SFO right now, and so they're going while the going is hot. Had Curry/Klay not pulled the 'ship off, they probably wouldn't have moved. But Curry sells, and they're asking top dollar.

At the end of the day, we need to remember that modern sports teams hardly have loyal hometown competitors playing on their behalf; Lebron is a rare exception, you know? Wade can make a similar argument, too, having gone back to Chicago.

Ultimately, it's all about the money. Loyalty to a home team is absurd, given that most players are free agents from all over the country. And yet we care, and those in power take advantage of that irrational loyalty to increase the size of their wallet... and when that wallet isn't fat enough, changes get made. Sucks, but us fans are suckers for it all the same.

That's what was kinda funny about the latest Jeddy York interview when he pointed out he couldn't be fired, etc. Of course the bottom line is its HIS team, godammit.

You are absolutely right about loyalty, about owners, etc. Those of us who follow either BA football team have learned about how loyal owners are to us. And that's not even with the ever-changing roster aspect!

All we ask is that they retain the hazy delusion that we fans count. I have to say that Seattle Seahawks has done a good job with that. Only Green Bay, and other sport teams, like Seattle Sounders and Barcelona FC have some kind of municipal ownership deals that translate to some level of actual ownership. Otherwise its the moguls club.

Welts appealed to that describing the new Center, saying that, while there would be 1,500 less seats, that they were eliminating a second bunch of luxury boxes whatever (which is only logical since big-shots sit on court anyway, so not much of a Milkbone). He emphasized that they were trying to recreate the Oracle feel and sound. Which made me chuckle, because it's "like Oakland, but without the Oakland part," which as I pointed out, is gentrifying anyway, so why run away?

I actually have favorable feelings toward the ownership despite a kind of LA angle (Guber, etc). Look at why. Damn. They have given us a good team, found a great and friendly coach who is as California as they come albeit LoCal. They really feel like a California joint. Unlike Jeddy, I don't think they will let the team wither once they get the new playground.

THe ultimate insider native view, to this ultimate insider native, is that we don't have to aspire to be San Francisco. We know who we are, we know who the Warriors are and its almost an inverse philosophy to go out of our way NOT to name them to our most famous local town. Because thinking it adds cachet is just not cool....(Hey, I don't even wear all-black clothes and hang in the cafes with this snobbery)...It's sorta like the local thing to go out of your way NOT to acknowledge celebrities and such...

And by contrast, York hangs ONTO the San Francisco name even while he's moved away. In case we forget who the 49ers are. Because York is all about Fisherman's Wharf, the hearty gold miners, etc etc. Right. It is different, but this is the opportunity for Dubs owners to distinguish themselves. I hope they don't squander it.

Good ol Lattrell. We are in the Golden State, it's our state nickname etc etc.

^ Hah :) Under further consideration, it looks like they've been sneaking in easter eggs all along... Like a gay bread crumb trail to show their true intentions of moving.

Traffic is already shitty enough getting from the south bay to oracle now I have to deal with san francisco traffic during rush hour? Great idea

It's a money grab. They could have and should have stayed in Oakland, built a great stadium and helped improve and give back to Oakland. They chose SF because it probably nets 3% more on their return on investment AND it has more appeal than Oakland.

Every telecast of raiders A's and Warriors games shows the Golden Gate, and SF skyline, never anything Oakland. Kind of sad, no organization is taking responsibility to be the front runners in improving Oakland.

I'm a Niner fan and refuse to pay for tickets for that Santa Clara joke of a stadium. I'm 90% on never buying tickets for the new warriors stadium.

If the As stay and build I'll go in on season tix with my brother inlaw for sure!

I think you're supposed to be whisked there by a self-driving Uber car at astronomical cost and not even think about it. And of course you got to leave work early because, hey, it's a Warriors game and you are important. Doesn't everybody?

Great close game against OKC going on, it's 51/50 now, like most Cavs fans...
