What did you do to your dirty bike today?

That’s soo sketchy and yeah I’d need a change of shorts after that!

It's dusty as hell, I don't blame him. Carnegie is a slip and slide, or was even a couple weeks ago when I was there last. Hollister was ok at best but that was only because I go during the week and it's empty. The ground still hurts like hell when I hit it hard.

I know I'm picky with dirt conditions but when you been doing it for 54 years I figure I earned it....

Replaced the Mikuni on the Husky TX 300 with a PWK. Got three other bikes with the Keihin and didn't want to start a new jet collection. Got the bike jetted really well; needle is JD blue (got they carb from them so tried his taper) and with it the bike just flies. Never tried his stuff before but like this taper, can't wait to really get out and stretch its legs.

The Beta is eating batteries. I’m trying to revive the Shorei again.

Open heart surgery nearly complete. Wallet substantially lighter.

Keeping it at 453?

I had a 05 400 and really liked it compared to to the 03 450. The longer stroke was definitely more tiring then the short stroke.

Currently trying to decide between a 530 or 500 for dual sporting as I feel they are better on the road than the 450. Any recommendations as to which would be closer to the 400?

Yes, i kept it 453. I love the short stroke 450.

This build I went all in. New piston, recoated cylinder, new valves, all new bearings in the bottom end and trans, straightened and welded crank, new cam, everything inside new $$$$. Fuck that got expensive.

You want closest to the 400? the new FI 450 has the same stroke as the old 400 with a bigger piston, basically the bore and stroke the 453 has.

As for 530 vs 500. I would say the newer chassis and FI make the 500 an easy choice over the 530. I also have reservations about the 530 mill due to the problems with oil consumption they had when they came out and also the separate engine and trans oil. But i have friends with them and they love them. With the 500 ( or any used new ktm FI dirtbike) find one that was reflashed or has a fuel tuner or you will have to address the lean condition

I have dual sported the shit out of RFS 453, 6 or so sheetirons, lost coast ride (400 mile weekend) truckee to gerlach (400 mile weekend), 14 52 gearing and flying on freeways between sections and I never wanted for more power.

I mostly ride tight singletrack here in truckee, with an occasional long DS ride, (ride to foresthill and back, once on 80) the 453 is perfect, but i do like the lighter weight of the newer bikes.

The rfs bikes are a little janky, that subframe in the pic for example, but I also had a 450 and thought the motor was excellent. It's much more annoying to discover the list of things than it is to know them in advance. Now that I know them, it was a good bike and I'd be fine with owning another.

Once Foresthill reopens come down and ride the Western States with us. Trail 6 and WST are a fun challenge. I haven’t done any riding in Truckee but we are always looking for good single track.

Wow awesome! I love my 450. How many hours on yours before the rebuild? I just spent the day messing with the stator doing the dc conversion. Next up led headlight. Waiting for the epoxy to dry on the stator before I find out if I did it correctly. :laughing

I did the original 453 top end 250 hours ago with a new piston and cyl and head rebuild with kibbkewhites at that time.
I got the bike 340 hours ago in 2008 and it had maybe 150 hrs on it, of racing time. So total at this point was close to 500 hours of hard time.
