What is the fastest vs slowest street legal motorcycle you have owned?

My first bike was a 1972 Suzuki TS-125. It was good for about 45 MPH. My 1984 FJ-1100 was good for about 145 but read 153 flat out.

The slowest, 1972 Honda 350/4. Fun bike, but not fast.
Fastest, CX650 turbo.
Not fast by today's standards, but it it had plenty of pucker factor when the turbo spooled up.

Harley-Davidson 50cc with 3 speed on the left wrist.
Suzuki gsxr 750

The Harley would go about 30 or so. I used to race my buddy's Chusman, and woud beat him for about a block and a half. Then the Cushman would come chugging past me with it's 40 or so top end. :laughing

Slowest - 1995 Ninja 250R Light weight but underpowered and couldn't get out of it's own way.

Fastest - 2023 BMW S1000RR. 205 rear wheel HP and 400lbs. Insanity on 2 wheels.

Never experienced it but seen it in action. Insanity is a good adjective.

Bad ass moto!!

Sounds familiar - I loved my TLS. I had one absolute monster, from a ham-fisted wheelie landing. Fitted a Hyperpro damper after that. In fairness, I've ridden worse, mostly it just had the tendency to wag a bit. Its most annoying quality was it used to turn into a TL500 when it rained and the transition back to 1000 was unsettling to say the least.

To be honest I think I mentally gave up on that bike riding home at a leisurely pace one day and the bike bucked and stopped.

Valve hit a piston!:wtf

It's not like I rode that bike in the upper rev range much at all.

So selling it once repaired was not as difficult as I thought it might be.

Had to ride it 250 miles in the cold to meet a BARFer from San Diego on I5.

I was afraid he'd offer me $500 less than we had agreed after his test ride, just because he could but, no, he paid me what we had agreed and I had a nice warm car ride home instead of freezing again.:laughing

Slowest was my first: Yamaha XS500

Fastest should be my most recent: 1290 Superduke GT

Slowest was my first: 1987 Honda Rebel 250

Fastest were a couple I owned 20+ years ago: a tossup between a 1993 ST1100 and a 2000 VFR800. Since 2007 I’ve been on slower, smaller bikes.

Slowest? Honda SL 125
Fastest? Hmmm, also a Honda, CBR 1000RR.
DT

Current ride 2014 KTM 1190R
First real ride 1973 Honda Trail 90

Back when I was still riding to the office everyday, I'd often chat with a guy that parked his S1000RR in the same moto parking area.

One day we swapped bikes one day when we were both going to lunch at the same time. He'd never owned anything smaller than a 750 so he was interested in what a 600 was like. I'd ridden some liter bikes but that was a different beast.

When we got back from lunch, he asked me what I thought. I told him... "Get this fucking thing away from me..." :laughing

I have no interest in owning a bike with that much power.

Compared to that bike my TL1000s was a tractor but I felt the exact same about it to be honest.

A semi useless tool where I ride it turns out no matter how much money thrown at it to massively improve it.

The differences between a TL1000 and a S1000R are significant, but there's one that makes them not relatable (almost): The IMU. The TL1000 has a standard throttle setup where the throttle is unaware of any other controls/ attitude of the motorcycle and merely control the power output. The rider controls it all...hence the term "A rider's bike".

All of the current crop of IMU controlled bikes have an interrelated "awareness" of all data ran through the IMU. Because of lean angle/ bank angle/ slip angle/ G load/ etc, a rider on the BMW S1000R isn't getting all the HP the bike can deliver under most conditions, even if the rider is twisting the throttle WFO. That TL1000 will put you on your ass 99% of the times the BMW won't let that happen.

IMO, the IMU tech is so good, I recommend people look for a bike with that technology in it and learn to control their speed. It's THAT good and oddly enough; the S1000R is a far safer ride than any standard 600 despite the near double HP. Thankfully, BMW does their ABS up right, unlike the Japanese. The most dangerous part of Japanese IMU bikes are the linked brakes and inability to turn off ABS. I hope they can just copy what the Italians are doing there...they do the ABS systems the absolute best. And electronics...

I had two 2001 TL1000s’s and thought they were fast until I bought an R1 and then a gixxer1k. The 2001 version of the TL was pretty tame. They weren’t gonna spit you off unless you did something really dumb.

Fastest for me would be a friends 2018 gixxer1k. Ever though I owned an earlier version I didn’t like anything about the 2018. Riding position was too uncomfortable and engine was a total screamer, kinda gutless down low with everything on top. I much prefer my 2020 speed triple rs.

I’ve owned a CM185 in HS, that was probably the slowest.

'11 Kawasaki KLR650 vs '18 S1000XR. The KLR650 is the only bike I've owned where I knew plain and simple what the top speed was.

Fastest '95 Honda CBR600 F3. 100hp and 160mph (claimed).

Slowest '82 Honda C70 Passport. 6hp. 45mph flat out in full tuck.

Fastest was my 2017 track prepped R1M at age 60
Slowest was my 50cc Motobecane at age 13

I probably had the same amount of fun on each :laughing
