Riding Griz peak sunday AM, left The Wall about 11:15 heading down towards 24, I pass 3 sportbikes (all separated by a few hundred yards) and NONE of them gave a "Tap" to show there was a fookin LEO a few turns further down. WHATS UP WITH THAHT? Two of 'em were on Ducs, so maybe they couldn't be bothered with giving a friendly alert.......Bad Kharma ladies, very bad. On a side note, an hour previous to that, I came up on the 4 way stop at, I think it's Wildcat Cyn/Shasta/Grizzly and seeing no cars coming, slowed to about 10 mph and cruised thru. As I was doing it, I looked over my right shoulder and in the parking lot up under the trees was an East Bay Parks cop. I debated for a second, and decided to pull over 200 yds or so up the road. He immediately pulled in next to me and thanked me for stopping. Long story short, even though I was rocking NO plate, turn signals and various other tag-able offenses, he was very cool, said "be careful, there's lots of bicycles out today" and other than commenting that it was "refreshing" to have someone with all their paperwork in order" let me go.....(dude was about 45-50 YO w/grey hair, forgot his name.) He also warned me that there were "lots of his co-workers working the hills today" (a warning that kept me out of trouble down the road.)

"no plates" leaves you "options" that having plates doesn't........:twofinger
The times I pull over, at most it just gets a "better take care of that" comment. Attitude is EVERYTHING when dealing with Da Man.

Two of 'em were on Ducs, so maybe they couldn't be bothered with giving a friendly alert...

I love how immediately this becomes a commentary on Ducati riders.

Dude, helmet taps and other signals are a courtesy folks can choose/opt to offer, not a requirement. Ultimately *you* are responsible for what you do and how you do it, if you're dumb enough (yes, I said that) to ride without plates then you should be man enough to accept whatever consequences that brings without expecting others to protect you with warnings. It's great you got off with a warning, but get your business sorted before your next ride.

Note: I give head taps whenever I can, I just don't cry about it if others don't do the same for me. Again, it's a courtesy that's nice to have but not a requirement you should always expect. Folks might be focused elsewhere, folks might not know (you'd be surprised), maybe the cops just rolled up to that spot, etc.

- speeding
- ran a stop sign
- NO plate,
- no turn signals
- and various other tag-able offenses

and it's the other riders fault for not tapping...

What makes you think you even deserve a courteous helmet tap when your just ASKING to be pulled over with those violations.:rolleyes

the whole waving and taping i always try to do but sometimes you just dont pay attention or dont react fast enough to do so. its hard in the twisties..
i remember there was one time during the first year i started riding that i was waving this guy mid sweeper and i was wondering why he didnt wave back and i realized that riding one handed mid turn was not the most smartest thing to do... :|

Gee ladies, must've gotten you at a bad time of the month..... I wasn't looking for a head tap because of my lack of plates (and that's NOT why I got pulled over, I rolled thru a stop) and I'm not expecting ANYONE to take responsibility for what I do, but it's a common (I THOUGHT!) courtesy to give a heads up when the police are hiding. By the way, how many of you have a plate stuffed waaaaay under yer tail section, that can only be read by sticking yer head next to the back tire? As "brown" stated, the grey hair tends to chill the agro attitude when I get pulled over, and I have yet (in the past few years) to get tagged for lack of plate, there are pleant of dick LEO's out there for sure, but you usually get the attitude you give, and being courteous (but not brown nose) will go a long way, (as does a valid license, reg, insurance and some grey hair!)

Sorry. As a responsible taxpayer I was just trying to do what's best for our revenue-strapped local government.
