When was the last time you rode a motorcycle?

Today - went from SF up through Napa/Calistoga to Middletown then back down to Pope Canyon and out next to Berryessa and back through Napa.

A bit chilly, but that's what heated grips are for.

Saw a few other bikers (everyone very friendly and waving) but not much bike traffic at all - surprising for such a nice sunny day!

No pics - I ain't got time to stop and take pics - I got places to be.... fast.

Ouch! It's been over a year! :( But, I've got a new hip and I'll be back in the saddle in a few weeks! :)
I got my first replacement hip back in 2019, and I'm getting #2 (other side :)) this year...

I don't know whether this is your first hip replacement, but it's life-changing. My riding pain COMPLETELY disappeared. Until the other side started hurting, obviously... Thank God for health insurance.

Good luck!

Interesting thread. I think there are a lot of members here who haven’t ridden in a while but still enjoy staying in the discussion so to speak.
Personally I rode to work last Friday.
I normally ride twice a month or so.
I rode up to the Tennessee Grill this AM for breakfast, on my Bonneville. When I got home, I hopped on my BMW and did a loop to Stinson Beach and back.

I ride pretty much every time I go anywhere in The City if I'm alone. It's my "car".

Thank you. Yes, it's my first. I sold my Ducati about 5yrs ago because I couldn't ride it for more than 20 minutes before the pain overwhelmed me. And yes it's absolutely life changing. I had it done Nov 1st last year, I had the 'anterior approach' so no muscles cut, and I've been going to PT since the December. 2 mile walks 3x a week plus 4 & 7 milers on the weekend. All I've really wanted to be able to do is swing my leg over the seat without climbing onto the pegs! I'm there!

Yeah, just do the PT religiously. Sounds like you're getting some serious miles in! I did (still do) 20 mins of stretching each morning... I can't run any more, which sucks, but that's a first world problem in my book.

I got anterior also, so healing was super-quick. I got a Kawi ADV for a while, which I still have, but my first love (my Triumph Sprint ST) was unrideable without pain. Now? It's my go-to again.

I know there's another BARF-er who had a hip replacement which was botched, but it sounds like yours is good.

Now that I fixed the forks on the FZ I'm back to commuting from Turlock to Modesto everyday. Haven't been on a ride ride in a few months. What I mean is, recreationally and not just for work LOL

Yesterday (Sunday Feb 2nd) - my 'usual' ride from SF to Tomales (via 101, Lucas Valley and some other back roads) and back via Hwy 1 and over the top of Tam.

POURING RAIN. Serious flooding south of Tomales on Walker Creek - 4-6"-deep water hurts when it sprays up and hits your feet/shins. Only a few other riders out there...

But I figure that the only way you get better (or at least comfortable) at riding in the rain is...by riding in the rain. So I don't like it, but it's good practice - I'm much less nervous at wet riding than I used to be. And now I know which of my gear needs some waterproofing spray...

Plus I was hankering for a ride... :)

I took a ride up to the top of mount diablo yesterday, came back all soaked, but happy as it gets

My 2011 Busa made it to 89K miles before it was stolen 11/28/2023(?). I think I tried to ride my other bike after that but my knees hurt so bad I gave up. So about a year and a quater.

Took the bike out this morning. Glorious day, high 60s.

Just a normal jaunt to the office in OC.

Express lane make the run less than an hour.

But, there was an alert on the sign near the 91. Talking about trouble on the 91 at the County Line. "Expect Delays".

Now, of course, you have to appreciate that specific spot is just the focal point of crushing traffic. The "County Line" is in the middle of this canyon where two things travel through. One, is the Santa Ana river. The other is the 91. There are no routes around it. THIS is the chokepoint.

By default, by definition, during the morning commute, you should "expect delay". But now it's worse. Worse enough that they're willing to put it on the sign.

If they put it on the sign, if something is so bad that it goes through all of the channels and calls the lady who wakes the guy up who saunters into the Control Center after stopping at Starbuck for his coffee to fire up the creaky 386SX PC running "Traffic DOS" so he can type in "The 91 is Humped" on it, you are assured the the 91 is wrecked. I should say "more wrecked" than normal, every day wrecked. Extra wrecked.

I could tell from the line of cars transitioning from the 15 to the 91 (if "transitioning" is the proper term of art for cars parked on a freeway exchange) that its all bad.

And there's no way the express lane was going to be any better.

You know whats great about not having to go into the office if you don't want to?

You don't have to go into the office if you don't want to.

Just didn't feel like walking my bike 7+ miles through hellish traffic.

So I turned around and head home (which took extra navigation through Corona, since the 15 North was all mucked up from the 91...).

But what a gorgeous day for a ride!

That part was nice.

I ride almost every day - to work (about 1.5 miles each way), and to the store or for errands. In total maybe 30 miles per week. It has been years since I rode over 100 miles for pleasure. Last summer I rode to Arcata to meet a friend, but I didn't get much pleasure from 1/101 on a holiday weekend.
I used to do at least one 800+ mile trip every month of decent weather, just for the fun of it. But there have been any number of factors that put an end to it: A T-bone from a redlight runner that broke my leg, getting married (a big factor for many!), increasingly painful arthritis, , smaller income and rising prices for gas/hotels, and lastly just the fact that I have done most of the great motorcycle roads in Northern California many times over, and I have lost the thrill of discovery. Also, my leathers are getting old and the zipper pulls keep breaking lol
However, my bike is still in good running order (though the bodywork has taken a few hits), and I could go for a real ride anytime I wanted. ..
I’m pretty sure we did a fun one up and over Hamilton to Livermore once. Lemme know if you want to do it again! 👍🏼

50 mile round trip commute daily. The morning and evening commutes are the best parts of my day, everyday!
Same here, just 25 miles. I’m actually surprised how many people here ride so infrequently. I would lose my damn mind. It’s in the low 40s here, so heated grips are being used. Better than blasting heat any day.

I asked ChatGPT to recommend other artists based on ones I told it I liked. My initial prompt only mentioned about ten artists and ChatGPT suggested ten more, all ones I knew about and listen to. I went through a few iterations of saying, "Oh, yeah, I know about those and like them too. What else can you think of?" Eventually, it produced names I had not heard of. They're all more offbeat and I really liked them. I'll probably keep using various AI tools to periodically refresh my feed and discover more stuff.
I’m stealing this example when kids ask “well if ChatGPT isn’t for getting school work done, what is it for?” basic iterations are what makes AI sing.
I rode today, again. Sucks to “warm up” the lithium battery for 5-10 minutes, but I incorporated other routines into the wait. Tires, oil level, etc.

Yesterday, but today is a skosh better, 70's, no wind, high thin clouds.
Phoenix is still playing with records, yesterday they tied it from 100 years ago, 80 *
WM Golf tourney is bustin out, shaping up for a killer week/end.
Gotta check the rain gage for Berryessa, , ,

am a fair weather rider (pussy). been raining like crazy up here. supposed to be clear this weekend, but the local track is always jammed up on the weekends with the out of town ricky racers. monday looks good for weather - cold, but clear. so pending any change in the weather, will be getting my freak on again on monday.

We have a construction project on our home, and by bike is boxed for at least another few weeks

At this point life stress is demanding I ride damn soon. Just a little jaunt that includes coming down the hill on Page Mill.

That has been my go to since ‘74 and bombed it as an underage a couple times around ‘71. :laughing.

Some years no because I was racing but I than than those 10 it has always been my weird bumpy emotional fav.

I still like a few good flicks to add to the satisfaction of dumping some life stress.
