I rode up to the Tennessee Grill this AM for breakfast, on my Bonneville. When I got home, I hopped on my BMW and did a loop to Stinson Beach and back.Interesting thread. I think there are a lot of members here who haven’t ridden in a while but still enjoy staying in the discussion so to speak.
Personally I rode to work last Friday.
I normally ride twice a month or so.
Thank you. Yes, it's my first. I sold my Ducati about 5yrs ago because I couldn't ride it for more than 20 minutes before the pain overwhelmed me. And yes it's absolutely life changing. I had it done Nov 1st last year, I had the 'anterior approach' so no muscles cut, and I've been going to PT since the December. 2 mile walks 3x a week plus 4 & 7 milers on the weekend. All I've really wanted to be able to do is swing my leg over the seat without climbing onto the pegs! I'm there!I got my first replacement hip back in 2019, and I'm getting #2 (other side) this year...
I don't know whether this is your first hip replacement, but it's life-changing. My riding pain COMPLETELY disappeared. Until the other side started hurting, obviously... Thank God for health insurance.
Good luck!
Yeah, just do the PT religiously. Sounds like you're getting some serious miles in! I did (still do) 20 mins of stretching each morning... I can't run any more, which sucks, but that's a first world problem in my book.Thank you. Yes, it's my first. I took a ride up to the top of mount diablo yesterday, came back all soaked, but happy as it getsYesterday (Sunday Feb 2nd) - my 'usual' ride from SF to Tomales (via 101, Lucas Valley and some other back roads) and back via Hwy 1 and over the top of Tam.
POURING RAIN. Serious flooding south of Tomales on Walker Creek - 4-6"-deep water hurts when it sprays up and hits your feet/shins. Only a few other riders out there...
But I figure that the only way you get better (or at least comfortable) at riding in the rain is...by riding in the rain. So I don't like it, but it's good practice - I'm much less nervous at wet riding than I used to be. And now I know which of my gear needs some waterproofing spray...
Plus I was hankering for a ride...![]()
I’m pretty sure we did a fun one up and over Hamilton to Livermore once. Lemme know if you want to do it again!I ride almost every day - to work (about 1.5 miles each way), and to the store or for errands. In total maybe 30 miles per week. It has been years since I rode over 100 miles for pleasure. Last summer I rode to Arcata to meet a friend, but I didn't get much pleasure from 1/101 on a holiday weekend.
I used to do at least one 800+ mile trip every month of decent weather, just for the fun of it. But there have been any number of factors that put an end to it: A T-bone from a redlight runner that broke my leg, getting married (a big factor for many!), increasingly painful arthritis, , smaller income and rising prices for gas/hotels, and lastly just the fact that I have done most of the great motorcycle roads in Northern California many times over, and I have lost the thrill of discovery. Also, my leathers are getting old and the zipper pulls keep breaking lol
However, my bike is still in good running order (though the bodywork has taken a few hits), and I could go for a real ride anytime I wanted. ..
Same here, just 25 miles. I’m actually surprised how many people here ride so infrequently. I would lose my damn mind. It’s in the low 40s here, so heated grips are being used. Better than blasting heat any day.50 mile round trip commute daily. The morning and evening commutes are the best parts of my day, everyday!
I’m stealing this example when kids ask “well if ChatGPT isn’t for getting school work done, what is it for?” basic iterations are what makes AI sing.I asked ChatGPT to recommend other artists based on ones I told it I liked. My initial prompt only mentioned about ten artists and ChatGPT suggested ten more, all ones I knew about and listen to. I went through a few iterations of saying, "Oh, yeah, I know about those and like them too. What else can you think of?" Eventually, it produced names I had not heard of. They're all more offbeat and I really liked them. I'll probably keep using various AI tools to periodically refresh my feed and discover more stuff.
. Throttle therapy is a thing, Bud.....At this point life stress is demanding I ride damn soon. Just a little jaunt that includes coming down the hill on Page Mill.
That has been my go to since ‘74 and bombed it as an underage a couple times around ‘71..
Some years no because I was racing but I than than those 10 it has always been my weird bumpy emotional fav.
I still like a few good flicks to add to the satisfaction of dumping some life stress.
