Zoom Zoom New Racer School

Whose "A" group? :)

What would you consider the max/slowest thunderhill laptimes for this school, for a big guy on an SV650? (David BenJ, you did work with me at the Intermediate school.)

Hey Dave. A potential new racer student asked me basically the same question a few days ago over email. Since it's equally applicable to you and probably many others, here's what I told him:

"We do not base our pass/fail criteria on your lap times. Far more important is your ability to remain smooth and consistent, hit the correct lines on the track, maintain appropriate body positioning, and brake effectively, all while keeping up a fairly quick pace. The speed of the "quick pace" can be a little subjective. We have failed people who turn excellent lap times but are riding far over their head. We have also failed people who are technically proficient but who ride at a snail's pace."

Hope this helps.

Will you make any A group spots available for us "regular" A-group folk?

Yep. We're working on it as we speak.

Ill be there, but when I looked at the date on your website, it listed "novice school" so I figured it would be a bunch of nubs like me on their first time on the track. I didnt think it would be a NRS, maybe I should reschedule. What do you think?

The NRS is being run during the "A" group.
The "Novice School" will be with the "C" group. You'll be fine.:cool

Also, just to clarify (from the website):

Our regular A group for those wanting to attend but not wanting to participate in the NRS. You'll be on track at the same time as the NRS, so please, truly Advanced riders only. You'll be mixing it up with NRS students to whom we'll be showing none of the usual trackday politeness, so if you can't handle CLOSE passes and riding, stuffing, shutting the door, etc, then this event isn't for you.

Inside and outside passing too?:teeth

In A group? Yes. Heck, inside and outside passing is allowed in B group, too, as long as you maintain a 6 foot gap between you and the other riders.

Specifically, any type of safe passing is permitted in the A group at any of our events. Usually we do ask people to show some restraint by not sucking paint off as they go by, stuffing, slamming the door etc.

In this case, that regular A group politeness request is suspended since we'll have instructors out stuffing and scraping off paint :teeth
