Zoom Zoom New Racer School

I can't wait to do the practice race starts at Thill now! Soo much fun!

There are no cut-off times for NRS. Yes you can fail for not going quickly enough, as you would be a hazzard to other racers, but no times are set in stone for this. Mr. Coyote was probably using the stopwatch to get an idea of someone's pace, not to measure against an actual cut-off time.

There's also no A-group minimum time with Z2, as it would be impractical. The average pace of a trackday group varies based on the which track it is, when in the year it is and proximity of the event to a race, as more racers tend to show up for events prior to races.

Thanks for clarifying. That's the impression I got when I took the Z2 NRS a couple months ago. I also thought that you just had to ride safely and predictably, but in the introductory speech Wile E. explained that our pace would be evaluated as well. One of the guys in my class was 'under review' due to his (lack of) speed, but he ended up passing.

It makes sense that there are no hard and fast times, as lap times vary quite significantly from class to class.

I've heard of people failing for being too slow. I don't know how they determine that. I would guess it's a lot easier to fail by crashing or being an unpredictable douch. I took NRS at Willow Springs, it actually was pretty easy. On the other hand, they have a full-on Novice class, so you don't have to run with the big dogs right away.

If your a current racer with another club have you called AFM and just applied for a license you might not have to take the NRS and you can save a little money.

Yeah, you are correct. I sent emails, no reply, tried to call the 209 number a few times. I got hold of Paddy this week, she said the same. The rulebook implies otherwise. I may still take the school since I have some Z2 ticket pack credits left.

Just remember it's not a racing school it's basically just some classes on afm rules and a riding evaluation. It would be better to just get a track day and ask for one on one help

It's hard to estimate Jorge's height from this picture but I doubt he is 6'-6"

me and El Tomate Volador go way back... :laughing Jorge is about 5'10...though, like oz, he's lost a ton of weight too. he was around 340 when i first met him...now he's closer to 230lbs.

I'm in for the NRS on Sunday the 29th, and Dan Sewell has graciously offered his coaching skills for me all day Saturday the 28th to see what all I need working on. He said he would be there for autographs, and pictures the whole weekend. :teeth

Bike is fast enough, just need to ease up on the brakes, before a few corners to increase my times. I'm ready, already, and plan on buying the CD from www.4TheRiders.com Sunday Afternoon. :thumbup

*lubb*

after years of knowing dan and never having ridden with him except for some BMX action in downtown sac, i FINALLY got to ride with him at thunderhill about a month ago.

me, dan, scott, marty, and ricky diced it up for about 2 laps before they wiggled around someone that i didn't feel comfy making a pass on... then they all checked the fook out on me. it was fun following dan, cause even though he's a big dude, he is SMOOTH! that man has talent...and he's good at conveying his knowledge too. :thumbup

Yep, Dan has the instructing thing figured out. Not just the riding like a fast mofo, but the way that he talks to you is superb. A perfect mix of forcefulness and understanding, just like it should be. Well, maybe the forceful part just comes from his gorilla-like size.

Then if he's still mentoring and racing when he turns 50, we'll have to call him The Silver Back. :teeth
