So, Dave Ramsey....on car buying....

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure my vote was heard.

If someone wants their student debt forgiven, they better be eating ramen, on a flip phone, and driving a pinto for a long, long time.

That’s the thing...

A lot of people are not putting money back into their local economy because they’re straddled with student loan debt

No house. Used car. Alibaba. Dollar store. Etc

All those borrowed dollars leaves their local economy and goes back to DC

I’d much rather they make an extra house payment or buy a new car or any other function of local economic stimulation

ahhh, there it is. that's the actual reason. People just have this inherent need to feel like they're better than others, and it pisses them off if there is a perception of being given a handout when they didn't get one themselves because goddammit nobody else should get help that you didn't get.

You probably also think people who get SNAP benefits should only eat beans and rice with tap water, and not name brand either.

So everyone should have a free handout after high school.

Here’s 100k. Use it for school or do whatever you want with it.

That’s my solution for the debt forgiveness advocates.

Not whatever you want. Gate it to functions of personal development that are inline with government growth targets.

My company gives me $2500 a quarter to spend on personal growth and training. I damn sure use every penny I can, often exceeding allotment BUT it has to be inline with my role or corporate growth

Now sure why you would put words in my mouth. But....keep going. What else do I think and believe?

I think SNAP people should get name brand if they want.

Go ahead and keep fabricating what you believe, or want to believe are other people’s thoughts/beliefs/opinions.

I don’t. There is little to no local economic impact in buying name brand. I’d much prefer if we had a system where federal dollar supported localized businesses.

You want snap, you have to buy foods from an approved list of vendors local to you. They have to be women or colored person owned and. And. And.

Federal dollars supporting Safeway is fucking stupid. I suppose it’s more convenient for the consumer though

Who gives a shit what someone drives or what kinda food they eat if they have student loans forgiven?

Those were your words. Not mine. I'll quote it for you in case you forgot:

If someone wants their student debt forgiven, they better be eating ramen, on a flip phone, and driving a pinto for a long, long time.

So your belief is someone that gets student loan help should eat shit food, use a shit phone, and drive a shit car because... reasons?

No, the United States of America is a business. We are horribly failing at developing our human resources.

We are relying like gangbusters on recruiting outside talent to fill the ranks of most of our bleeding edge skilled jobs.

We as a people need to start providing Health Care resources as a fringe benefit for citizens to make our benefit package competitive with the other companies (countries), we need to start making education in the in demand skilled professions a ZERO COST programs for citizens willing to train.

If you want an arts or humanities degree or some shit, fuck off and go pay for it 100% out of pocket, no loans on that unproductive noise.

Build up local production ability. Develop attainable housing models, provide health care so our people can survive their training. Make us strong again.

Kalashnikov was an artist who became an inventor. He was certainly useless to the world.

You’ve bashed Mike Rowe a bit in this thread. I just hope you’re equally as critical of actors sounding off like they have a clue about things they don’t.

Do you even understand that your static analysis won’t be valid if we start treating college like a human right?

The problem with that hypothesis is that we actually have multiple examples of countries that have made college free, or even paid students a stipend to go, and people with a college degree still earn far higher wages. The thing is, even when college is free, not everyone will end up going to college, some people will not have the grades for it, others will want to pursue other things like apprenticeships or training in trades.

Also, right now the US needs more skilled/educated workers, while we have an overabundance of workers for lower skilled jobs. We need more people to go to college.

Why is it only the college folk bitching about wage stagnation? I don't hear this from tradespeople near as much...

So in the first sentence you are asserting that only college folk are bitching about wage stagnation. Right after conceding that tradespeople also say it. It's just YOU don't hear it as much. :rofl If you are going to construct one of these bullshit bad faith "just asking" arguments, at least try harder.

I'm betting you're the college end....

Tradespeople are killing it right now. College people seem to not be killing it...

Tradespeople ARE killing it and I am glad to see it.

I college'd and I'm pretty happy even if I am paying student loans for said college. But the thing is, I ended up doing bookkeeping and some light accounting along with a whole host of other straightforward "I can run a business" type activities the resulted in me running the company where I work. Plus, I have a nice side practice with some other clients. I think what you studied or did for your job have a big impact on how well you are doing right now.

Death and taxes and all that. :cool

No kidding, anything related to construction/contracting the prices for services are absurd. When you calculate out the implied hourly rate, it's coming out around $150/hour. Of course the subs are only getting paid $35-50/hr, guess whose pockets that $100 goes into.

The S&P500 is up ~47% over the last 1 year. I hope everyone all invested in the market.

Tradespeople ARE killing it and I am glad to see it.

I'm really surprised at what people can get paid without college. I have my masters in engineer and work a project engineering manager in tech. My mom is a real estate agent and my sister is a rich family personal assistant. Both are making more than me. My mom is running laps around me. I think I am doing better off since I have been investing in my side business since ~26.

Another meaningless generalization. When wage stagnation was brought up in this thread I believe it was over more extended period of time.
You shifted timeline to now, then you are lumping all the college people. There are certain areas that are killing it. Computer science for example. There are certain trades professions in specific geographic areas also.
