2009 Ducati 1198- yay or nay?

If you can, drive it first. Ducs arent known for smooth fuel mapping. The engines cantankerous below 4,000 rpm. After that, hang on. They are made to haul the mail, not to give enjoyment riding to starbucks

haha... nice try! The R1's not going anywhere. She is the love of my life. I just need a mistress on the side.

So get something different like a Street Tripple R as the "other woman" :thumbup

Otherwise you end up just having two versions of the same thing - a really fast well behaved literbike :teeth

ducati = beautiful italian mistress that may screw you over unless you have the $$ or a big penor to keep her...

street triple = not so pretty slutty trailer trash but at least she does anal and can cook...

win/win...

Maybe the StreetfighterS would be the better choice. :)

I owned a Ducati 749 for a little over couple years. Started as a street/track bike and ended up as track-only bike. Just did the regular maintenance. No problems with the duc except for the times I crashed it.

The Desmoquattro engines (916series) gave the Duc a bad rep on the reliability. The newer testastretta engines are more reliable (starting from xx9 series). The 1098 series is supposed to be more reliable than the xx9, and has less frequent service intervals (relatively speaking). Ducatis these days are mass produced just like the jap bikes => sorting out the bugs. But, if you insist on getting an unreliable italian bike definitely look for a Benelli ;)

Other than the duc being a twin, and the R1 being a 4 banger, you are buying a clone of a bike u already own.

If you are gonna get a 2nd bike, get one that offers major differences to your first one. Motard, touring bike, adventure bike, hell even a scooter.

+1
this is exactly my thinking. having a hard time keeping my eyes away from the Street Triple R...

as you asked for advice, I'd make a choice, either the R1 or the DUC. Both great bikes. But unless you are a collector, for riding, you only need one litre bike when you want to do a litre bike style ride.

Also, to the earlier comment on not buying euro, not all european manufacturers are like the italians...! :twofinger

I am going to be so pissed off if everyone piles on the S3R wagon right after I get mine and I don't get to feel special :x

Go buy some Gixxers or something.
