All the sh!t talk about Harley Davidison

i hate you!

im waiting to buy an HD in july as I build my down payment

i just rode to tahoe this last weekend with a bunch of lumbering 1940's tech machines and i can't wait to buy mine :)

Just go to Golden Gate Harley in Corte Madera and negotiate without a down payment! That's what I did! :rofl

I ended up at the top of Mt. Tam with a nice cold one at the end of the ride:

You won't be disappointed when you get one :)

On a side note I put 450 miles on my heavy, slow, unreliable, overpriced image-machine this weekend... and I like this thing more than any bike I've ever owned prior....

It's just like all the crappy Ducatis out there that people love. The shit isn't designed for the best performace, but it has personality. If you like that personality, thats between you and your property. Fuck what anybody else thinks. The only Harley I ever rode was an electroglide and it was fucking awful. If I want somethign that gigantic and cumbersome, I'll get a goldwing, which is fucking AWESOME. I bet I would totally dig a big Sporty or V-Rod though. They seem fun.

pm coming

an old college lab partner had a beauty of a '70s Electraglide. I told him I didn't want an H-D because of their 'culture'. he told me if I didn't like the culture then all the more reason to get one...so that when someone sees me on an H-D their ideas of the 'culture' may change.

I don't know if that was true or not, but he did have a sweet tat....on the inside of his lips! top said "Electra", bottom said "Glide". Nicest guy you'd ever meet. Must've went through some serious shit as a young'in.

You know harley isn't the only one that makes cruisers. You can do everything and more on a nighthawk (or some other models, I haven't browsed the market too much)

you and brown. go look up quarter mile times for worked sportster 1200s and compare to a stock gs500. now realize that the gs500 has better cornering clearance and is much lighter so it can have much higher cornering speeds.

finally, look up lap times for the AMAs now defunct sportster series and compare to 500p.

why are you even trying to justify a HD from a performance perspective? did you eat paint chips as a kid?

GS500E ('01) 39.2 @ 8500 26.6 @ 7000 13.65 @ 95.5

(wow, a mighty 39 horsepower!! Most info I have found had the GS running mid-high 14's, but I used the best number I could find).

Sportster 1200 Roadster ('04) 67.4 @ 6000 72.2 @ 3750 13.02 @100.03

V-Rod ('02) 109.3 @ 8250 74.3 @ 7000 11.31 @ 115.0

Sportster faster.

Here's top gear roll-ons:

GS500E ('01) 8.52

Sportster 1200 Roadster ('04) 5.11

You're referring to the Sportster series they had back in the 19990s and early-mid 2000s, right?

That was a fun series. I remember watching the Bostrom brothers running at Seca. Slow racing but pretty wild as the huge mufflers and other parts would make showers of sparks in the corners. ('Should have run at night.)

The best race was run on a rainy weekend. Everyone had throttle back but the Bostrom brothers. They just switched to flat track bars and started backing the bike into each corner they came to. It was wild.

harley is the make that makes the make that all the makes wanna make.

Ummm, they're closed, shhhhh

:laughing

Here's one for y'all, right now I'm debating whether to buy stan23's 2004 Ducati 999 or a 2001 Harley Dyna Low Rider.

Believe it or not it's a really tough choice.

Have you ridden the 999? Are you going to track it? Because they're cool bikes but a holy buttfuck of uncomfortable on the street.

His 999 is nice though.

Guy who runs my local machine shop has a Dyna Low Rider. Nice bike.

Yeah, I had the same problem when I was shopping for my last car - I couldn't decide whether to get a Plymouth Voyager minivan or a BMW Z3. :laughing

I'd go with the Harley. While both bikes are not particularly well designed and should be bought for quirky charm, the Harley crowd is FAR less awful than the Pasta crowd.

For the bazillionth time, HD's mantra is if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The engine sells so there's no reason to invest the money to change anything. :|

And if the rest of the world followed that motto, we'd still be in the dark ages.

What's a voyager got to do with a 999? :confused

:laughing

I think Barf has discovered the secret of cold fusion! Just drop in one particle of HD bashing and the result is millions of BTUs of hot air energy! :)

Tell you what Naz , a *stock* 1200 Sportster will eat your GS alive in the quarter mile , much less a 'worked' one , kindly gain some knowledge of what you're talking about prior to making statements that are utter bullshit.

Furthermore you might be unpleasantly surprised to find out just how well certain stock Sporties and the old FXRS handle..

I've stayed out of this whole thread up until now , but you know something certain of you folks are just as bad as the ' Harleys best fuck the rest' crowd are , there's no appreciable difference in attitude.

Keerist on a crutch , let the guy riding the specific bike decide. And don't start spouting false facts and figures.

The spec in that series was the 883 Sportster, not the 1200.
