Hey whoa whoa stop now. You can't say that!

In my years, it was used on white people way before the whole hip-hop self-induced Thug Life bit. Not many people in America knew about the South Asian linkage probably until some Indiana Jones movie.
I never thought of black criminals as thugs per se before that usage, frankly and still don't really. It was just a perpetual image of thick-faced dumb ex-cons and side-men on the docks and working for the mob. I bet it was used in Dick Tracy cartoons a zillion times. And they probably were always wearing dark beanies.

Not me, I already knew before that movie. I also already knew where the word Assassin came from.
Still not sure why grift is controversial?
(jaysus, how many ignore lists am I on, having explained that thugs is way older)
I've never heard someone describe a white criminal as a thug.
Any time folks are fearful of racial justice, is because they worry about being treated in the same way they've always treated others.
Hmmm, that's the only reason huh? And all these people you categorize as fearful, they must be white only, and they've been awful to minorities their whole lives?

Interesting how the most woke folks only see things in black and white
have always thought it is perceived as more of a zero sum game by those who are fearful of it. personally, i think that’s where the bulk of the fear comes from. which is a hard nut to crack. even the most the well intentioned and otherwise fair person can be fearful of losing what they have. protect your base is a powerful impulse. it’s almost like we need psychotherapy on a national scale.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was throwing it out there to see what bounced back. I mean, he was painting into a corner anyone who disagreed with him as an active racist. Surely a truth seeker such as himself, who is not an ideologue, would not do such a thing.
Well, it is more complicated than that though. I think the more important point is that people can't even agree on what Racial Justice is, so making those kinds of broad based categorizations about how people react to it is just another biased overreach.
Start with items like this:

Nah, he'll probably read it. Not sure what's so passive about it. Antagonistic? His original statement was antagonistic.kinda passive-aggressive dontchathink? antagonism rarely contributes anything positive.
yeah - seen the illustration many times before. but to your point, no, i don't think it’s more complicated than that. made out to be in people’s minds, but ultimately - not. IMO - lotta deflection involved. not helpful.

It's very much more complicated than that. It's a political movement. It's, "you've been screwed and here's why, now vote for me." You can have a mob of the demographic that is deemed "oppressors" surrounding a member of the "aggrieved" demographic, and they're demanding that he complies with their demands to raise his fist and "say their names," and he refuses to do so, so they call him an Uncle Tom. It's batshit crazy.

You must be proud of regurgitating all of that.Nah, he'll probably read it. Not sure what's so passive about it. Antagonistic? His original statement was antagonistic.
