CHP Causing a Motorcycle Accident

Threads on this place spiral out of control faster than any forum I've ever been on. I vote that there ought to be a rule that to post on BARF you have to be willing to attend a meeting once a month with other BARFers and act out a thread in person. :teeth

I'd like to say if the video is in real time, you guys are slow. My bicycle goes faster through that section... :rofl

What did he pull you guys over for, holding up traffic? Didn't you guys have a permit to ride Skaggs?:p

Oh and that video is funny. I feel for anyone who falls, even if it's due to their own asshattery, but it's still a bit comical. And it doesn't matter who posted the video.

And I'm the only one who thinks videotaping riding on public roads is retarded to begin with? What is the point?

like..charades? :teeth

No, everyone has to act out their posts from a thread they participated in. The mods get to pick the threads and then invite the key posters to come and act out the thread in a bar in front of an audience of BARFers. In order to maintain your posting privileges, you need to attend. Could be a hell of a show.

Yeah, the point of my thread was not to place blame on the LEO involved, just a mini-rant. Traffic LEOs main function is to catch evil doers to make it safer for EVERYONE involved, with that sort of objective, there is no rhyme or reason to drive aggressively and unsafe in an effort to catch those who are also being unsafe

However, to an extent cops have to intimidate and exhibit total control over the situation if they are going to job their effectively and go home safe at the end of the day. Iif you're that cop and you've had bikers run on you before, maybe you are more aggressive in surprising them to have that initial intimidation factor and get them to pull over

In this case, I can't see how a cop coming up fast from behind causes a crash like that, i.e., someone stopping too quickly and doing a stoppie. That crash was caused by those riders being spaced much too closely and not paying attention. First guy brakes, following guy isn't paying attention is too close, grabs brake and voila. 100% rider error. Just another reason, riding in groups is retarded IMO.

This is not true and is a common misconception in the US. Cops don't have to be dicks at all and in fact being mean or intimidating may have short term benefits but in the longer term tends to make people dislike and mistrust the police.

That said, while the CHP or other police organizations may have done all sorts of horrible shit to various people, this is not one of those cases and is a rather stunning self inflicted wound and seems a good example of why supersports are not good choices for new riders.

Just as cops being dicks tends to lessen respect of the people for law enforcement in general, false accusations of police wrong doing when in fact there did not appear to be anything of the sort is also bad.

I run a camera on my bike on a regular basis, just commuting. If someone is driving eraticly or if I get cut off, I have a license plate. If someone runs a red and hits me, I have video proof that I was not at fault.

Sums up my point exactly. Thanks Bud:thumbup

I disagree and I'm not talking about 'being dicks'. Acting in a commanding or even intimidating manner isn't necessarily being a dick, and if you talk to actual cops who actually do police work every day, I'll bet most will tell you it's a requirement. I have cops in the family and as friends and they all believe it's critical to controlling certain situations.

Also, you might want to research some of the psychological studies done on the impact of something as simple as the presence of a uniform on human behavior. The ability to police required the ability to command and project authority. I'm not talking about crossing the line and abusing people. I am talking about the police interacting from a position of power in detention or arrest situations. In many situations, the ability to intimidate is critical to the cop safely executing their duty. Again, not abusing people, just gaining control over the situation. In this case, I don't think what the cop did was all that aggressive or intimidating and it had nothing to do with accident. I'll be if he put his lights on from 20 feet back the same accident would have occurred.

Okay, I see the benefit of that. But you don't post em on you tube, do ya?:teeth

if he ate shit or got taken out, you better believe he would

im actually considering doing the same

not yet. I thought about it once just so I could have somebody on barf find it and make fun of me, but people make fun of me enough as it is.

I can't figure out why the cop didn't get out of his car to see if the riders were injured in the 45 seconds between when they went down and the end of the video. :thumbdown

The rider of the camera bike was to the downed riders within about 10 seconds.

Most likelyon the radio calling for assistance. As in ambulance needed and location. :thumbup

Why wouldnt the officer use his loud speaker if he wanted the group to pull over? Hope everyone was okay.

Yeah, or I think he was just out of the frame. It looks like the guys are talking or listening to someone off frame to the left.

Can't usually understand shit from those loudspeakers- you can tell someone is yapping about something, but damned if you can make out what they are saying. It's a siren speaker, not a EV or Klipsch theater speaker...so fidelity aint a high priority.

y would that chp cut into the group? god damn...didnt even help the rider...

*Sigh*
How good is the cell coverage out there?
Other riders were attending to the fallen one, no?
Two-way radio does work pretty well summoning assistance, and I'll bet he can get through to dispatch a heck of a lot better than someone with a cell phone IF there's coverage...

Yeah, calling it in isn't going to be much help. :hand
