Digital SLR / DSLR Camera Question / DSLR Thread 2

I love our accountant.

Today, I turn 40. I was resigned to being 40, no 'real' job and making do with my aging, past 100K actuation Canon Rebel.

But later today, the 5D Mk2 will be ours!

Now I just need to start saving for some L glass :laughing

Holy fucking shit.

It's about as noisy at 6400 ISO as the Rebel is at 400 ISO. Will post pics later when I've taken something a bit more interesting to look it.

Need new glass. The body is by far, no longer the limiting factor in sharpness methinks.

Goddamn this is a nice camera!

It's a dark and rainy day.

Not bad for a cheapie lens, dim room, and 6400 ISO. And I had to compress the sh*t out of it, and it's cropped.

But, still able to get away with F7.1 and 80th of a second!!!

This was a dark room. Did I mention that it was dark?

Fook me.

Will have to try some at ISO 50 now. Lemme try the flash.

congrats on the new toy...
go to CFn. III: #2 set to 4 and #7 set to 1...

Thanks :thumbup

Make focussing for people far more reliable.

And on that note, I shot pics at my party last night with CANDLELIGHT and 1 string of icicle Xmas-tree lights. That's it...

Was up to 50th of a second most of the time, at ISO 6400, noise is there, but acceptable and probably easily cleanable with NeatImage.

And the focussing was fine. Hunted a little bit occasionally, but in the same light, the Rebel basically never found focus, except on hightlights sometimes.

I was worried that I was swapping to 'more of the same' as far as low-light focus abilities, but it's an ENORMOUS improvement over the Rebel - just, hooge. I can see that there's room for improvement even more, but for me, it's fine. I don't expect to do many shoots by candlelight...

also 5dmk2 with 85 1.8 is a great portrait combo...tack sharp and you won't loose a limb when you get one...hahaha

taken with the ol trusty xti with the crappy ol kit lens...

i got a couple of buddies that shoot with hass, film tho, but still great!..
i was close to getting a 500C hass before but thought about the film expenses and processing...

:laughing That would be sick. I think the H3D is down to $30k or so. :p

Still not super thrilled with the 35/1.8 lens. Seems to either miss focus by a touch, or it's just not all that sharp. Grumble. Getting some decent shots with it, though. And with a metal mount and water seal, I'm happy to take it out in the rain while picking a Christmas tree with the kids. Here's at F/2, unadjusted out of the camera.

Somebody tell me if this looks soft to you. 100% size of the focus area here: http://nickdavis.zenfolio.com/img/v5/p660845358.png

85 prime on full frame :love

You should do it, Ian. Probably be the best $400 you'll ever spend on that camera.

yea face doesnt seem to be in focus as much as the hair is

That's what I thought too. Seems to be consistently back-focusing by a few inches. :rant

looks fine. if u feel the need, use the sharpening tool in ps..

on the full image i really dont notice it, so on a smaller print probably would be fine. a little sharpening in ps probably couldnt hurt

Yeah, very torn between getting a really decent prime, or saving up for the 24-70 L series...

I just dropped 200 on this just to have something OK for everyday.

I have a shoot coming up, but guessing I can use only the 50mm and my 70-300 no problems, as the full frame makes the 50 very flexible indeed in a studio, and suddenly the 70 becomes almost useable for full-figure pictures without having to be halfway down the drive :laughing

can you still cancel the order? or you have it already? get the 85 and you'll be really happy with it...

Lol!

Problem is, I have no 'every day' lens for it at the moment at all, the 50 is OK, but not for indoors when you can't get far enough away.

I may flog the 70-300 and just try to get the L lens that much sooner. But for right now, I need something wider than the 50.

The 85 prime IS on my shopping list tho...
