Do You Mountain Bike?

Trail: Confluence, Culvert, Manzanita, Stagecoach, Old Stage Coach, a trail we call "Tinker's" off of Stagecoach. Occasionally will climb Clementine to Forest Hill connector and do Forest Hill Loop with Culvert/Confluence thrown in.

DH: Mammoth OHV, Culvert/Confluence.
Dude, I have ridden there "xc" several times with "Crash" but I did my first day of shuttles with some hard core riders just before the winter. :thumbup It was awesome :teeth

Don't think I've got any weekend time free this month but I'd love to hook up with you (and also grab some of the other folks from this forum ;) to join) as soon as I can. Can't wait. :teeth

Ok, so what are my options for this weekend people?

I'm jonesin'! :p

Looks like the race @ Boggs is the hot ticket on Saturday (sjensen / rox / sonny / jeremy). People were selling their spots on MTBR, but since Lisa works Saturdays, it's a no go for us.

Sunday is the CCCX XC race at Toro Park. While I'm feeling as strong as I ever have on my climbs, I'm iffy on that right now. I'd like to do another CCCX XC race on a flatter course, since that's where I seem to be strongest.

I will be doing at least a double loop (+ some extra climb) with Gregory and another friend at Tamarancho on Saturday morning.

You are welcome to join.

Do not bring the Turner. Sonny's Enduro was a beast for that course, way overkill. If it wasn't for the fact that my bike pedals so well uphill even mine would be a beast to lug around that course. There are just a few spots where you will wish you had FS but not enough to actually bring one. I think the lightweight hardtailers are going to own this course.

The only difference with the climbing here is that alot of it is fast. It's not slow really steep acsents like in the Oakland hills. These are long drawn out uphills of seemingly mild grade. Even more drawn out than the CCCX course. You will rarely get down into the small chainwheel upfront until you get really tired. It's going to be all about muscle, stamina, and endurance here. Fuel Fuel Fuel is all I can say. Sonny and I planned on a leisurly ride to investigate so I don't think (or at least as for me) we concentrated enough on nourishment. But we ended up pushing pretty hard and I was quite dehydrated after that lap which was still only 75% of the effort I intend to put into the race. I'm going to drink a gallon of water before this race and have fanny pack full of salt:teeth

Good to know, that my enduro will be over kill. also good to know you dont need anything but the middle chain ring in the front. I'm running a single with 34-11,32 cassette, was thinking about swapping to a 32 in front, but will just plan to suffer through. i did drop my enduro down to 30.8 lbs though. Not bad for single ring, chain guide, DH bar, and heavy tires. :thumbup

Where is Tamarancho?

Marin. Fairfax, to be precise.

Tamarancho is actually private land and requires a $5 day pass. You can either buy one online or from one of the local bike shops in Fairfax.

What happens if you dont?
We make you buy the pass as it's a small price to pay for the absolutely amazing single track they let us play on and then fix it up for us when it starts to erode.

It's not all just take. Sometimes you gotta give back a little bit.
But believe, it's worth it. :teeth

FYI, Trouble in D'ville paradise...

I've been following that. Yuba does quite a bit of the trailwork up there too, don't they? While we probably could still pull off our own shuttle system using multiple tow vehicles, it would still be sad to see either of the bike shops close their doors.

I wonder if this Forest Service deal knows the effect this would have on Downieville's economy? I'd imagine the amount of business that mountain bikers bring to the town is huge.

1 more day. let me know when you guys are leaving rox and sonny. i have a midterm until 11, but should be ready to roll anytime after that. just lemmie know the time and the address to meet yall at.

tough as shit, but fun as hell. i did 7 laps, no idea on time. highlights were getting passed by so many people on climbs, and smoking them on the DH's. Passing off the course, in the bushes etc, or the nor cal HS mtb kid who was talking shit at the starting line...(YOUR GOING TO RIDE THAT BIKE? your in my class? good luck etc etc). bastard was on a CF hardtail and took off like a bat outta hell, 3rd lap i pass outta the saddle cranking (to rub it in yanno) and said "WHAT HAPPENED??!!" to which he replied "3 laps...im done." which made my day. i need a HT XC bike though now...$$$

Dude they are cheap as shit. Just get an old aluminum with decent components. 24 25 lb bike you can thrash. Murphy and his girl were on 90's shwinns with v brakes that weighed like 23lbs with old fox 80mm forks. He's in his late 30's and was pulling sub 50 min laptimes. Don't spend more than $500 except on nice wheels.

That was a blast. Who's racing Napa Valley Dirt Classic next weekend?

damn son, your looking fly

I'm giving Napa some serious thought.

I will confirm later this week. Carpool is probable if someone needs a ride.
